Stephen Joseph Sullivan, a cherished family man, and esteemed former police officer, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025, at the age of 83, in
Carmel, NY. Born on October 9, 1941, in New York City, Stephen's life was one marked by devotion, service, and the joy he found in his beloved family.
Stephen was the son of the late David and Agnes (Chafe) Sullivan and brother to David Sullivan.
His educational journey began at DeWitt Clinton High School, where he laid the foundations for a life of dedication and discipline. Following his graduation, he proudly served his country as a United States Marine and, during his service, he was on the elite New York City Emergency Service Squad, Stephen went on to serve the community as a New York City Police Officer, a role he held for 25 years. Known for his courage and integrity, Stephen made an indelible impact on those he protected and served.
Upon retirement from the NYPD, Stephen did not settle for a life of idleness. He opted instead to continue contributing to his community by working with Putnam Transit for 23 years.
Stephen's heart was most truly defined by his role as a family man. His beloved wife, Maureen (Mitchell) Sullivan, was the love of his life and together they created a legacy of love and unity that will forever be cherished. Their children, Christine Pozzuto and Stephen Sullivan, were raised with the same values of honor and service that Stephen himself exemplified.
Few things brought Stephen more joy than his role as a grandfather to Lucas, Julia, and Mark Pozzuto, Aidan Lancer, and Jason Sullivan. He reveled in their accomplishments and was a constant source of wisdom and gentle guidance.
Stephen Joseph Sullivan led a life that was rich with experience, and love; his memory will be honored and remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
