Mr. Steve Smith age, 68 went home to be with The Lord Friday, April 21, 2023, at his home in Panama City Beach Fl. surrounded by his wife of 24 years and his twin sons William and Harrison Smith Age18.
The funeral service will be held at eleven o’clock am Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at the McRae Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tim Smith officiating and Eulogy by Chris Lindley. A private Family interment will follow in the Forest Lawn Gardens in Anniston. Visitation will be on Tuesday evening, April 25, 2023, from 4pm until 7pm at the funeral home.
Steve was born in Gadsden, Alabama on October 7, 1954, to R. E. & Mary Jo Ellis Smith. He Graduated from Boaz High School in 1973 and Graduated from University of Montevallo. He also served in the military Army band. Steve was a Band Director for 32 years. His career started at Fyffe High School, and he finished his career in Guntersville Al. He taught at Fyffe, Douglas, Gadsden, Handley, Boaz, Arab and Guntersville. He was a professional French Horn player. He was also a writer and composer of music, especially for marching bands. He was a talented musician and a beloved Band Director. Most important, he was a wonderful husband and beloved father. Steve was an all-around great guy who loved his family dearly.
He is survived by his wife Darlene Key Smith, Twin Sons William and Harrison Smith, brother Tim Smith (Rhonda), Mother-in-Law Mary Odom, Sister-in-Law Debi Key Harper (Deryk), Brother-in-Law Bruce Key. A host of nieces and nephews. Preceded in Death by parents R E Smith, Mary Jo Smith. Brothers Danny Smith, Thomas Smith, Chris Smith, and Father-in-Law Bruce L. Key. Steve also leaves behind a host of friends and his former band students throughout his 32 years of teaching.
Pallbearers will be Jerald Bailey, Ron Bearden, Paul Tallent, Curtis Burttram, Steve McLendon, and Randell Wallace.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the son’s college fund in care of Beth Haven Baptist Church, 1424 County Road 471, Crossville, AL 35962.

Will never forget the summer of 1965. Steve and Tim and Liz and I swimming at the local pool in Boaz and drinking RC Colas. What a great memory. Until we meet again cousin. Love, Patty
