Steven H. Bauman, 74, of Sterling, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at the Apostolic Christian Village in Rittman, following a period of declining health from his frontotemporal dementia.
Steve was born on June 20, 1951, in Wadsworth, Ohio, to Herbert and Berniece (Gerber) Bauman. He attended Sterling School and Norwayne High School. Steve's faith in Jesus Christ was the cornerstone of his life. He was a member of the Smithville Apostolic Christian Church and was baptized on August 24, 1969. On March 17, 1974, Steve married Connie E. Stoller from Paulding, Ohio, and she survives.
Steve was a dedicated dairy and crop farmer for over 45 years, working with his father and later alongside his son, Jeremy. Even after his semi-retirement in 2017, he continued to help friends and neighbors with farm and other work, a reflection of his generous heart. Steve volunteered with the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Wooster and was known for his quiet strength, sense of humor, work ethic, and love for his wife and family. He enjoyed church gatherings, traveling, caring for his land and livestock, doing word searches, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Connie; four children: Krista (Andy) Wieland of Livonia, MI, Jeremy Bauman of Sterling, Jon (Karen) Bauman of Sterling, and Janelle (Joshua) Steffen of Wooster; and his loved grandchildren: Ashlyn Wieland; Jordan, Jenessa and Jed Bauman; Kaylee, Addison, Caden, and Carson Bauman; and Ember and Foster Steffen. Also surviving are three brothers: Victor (Brenda) Bauman of Sterling, Daryl (Ivy) Bauman of Sterling, and Roger (Jennifer) Bauman of Rittman; and one sister, Carol Bauman of Rittman. Also very appreciated in Steve's life were his in-laws, many nieces, nephews and cousins, good friends, and his special caregivers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Berniece; and a sister, Marjorie Bauman, who died at 11 months old.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Auble-Gillman Funeral Home, 360 W. Sunset Dr., Rittman, or from 9:30-10:15am on Thursday morning at the church.
Funeral services will take place on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 10:30am, at the Smithville Apostolic Christian Church, 8530 Fulton Rd., Sterling, with ministers of the church officiating. Burial will follow at the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery in Rittman.
Memorial contributions may be made to Apostolic Christian Village, 10680 Steiner Rd., Rittman, OH 44270 or Ohio's Hospice LifeCare, 1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, OH 44691.

Dear Connie and family,

You have our sympathy. It was such a pleasure for me and so many others of us to have met and shake the hands of your beloved Steve so many years ago at our 41st and 45th High School Reunions in Van Wert. And while those abreviated visits didn't reveal all of his endearing qualities, his obituary certainly did. May he rest in peace, free from all the suffering he has endured these last few years and may God comfort you and all of your family and friends as you move forward at this difficult time.

Connie we extend our sympathy to you and your family. I remember during our conversation at Eunice´s funeral that I was struck by the love with which you spoke of your husband. Peace and grace, Greg and Dianne Gerber.
