The obituary was lovingly provided by the family.
Mr. Steven Russell Cannon passed away on July 1, 2025, at the age of 67. Steve was preceded in death by his parents Robert Cannon, and Marvin and Ruth Ramge as well as his stepson Steven Smith. He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 39 years, Cindy Cannon, his brother David Cannon, his son, Russell Cannon, and stepdaughter, Karrie Randolph (Levi).
Steve had a second set of parents in Herman and Rozella Kitchens who treated him like one of their own. He loved his brother-in-law Randy (Katrina) Kitchens and his sister-in-law Stacey (Jim) Casey as well as nieces and nephews. But anyone who knew Steve well, knew that his most treasured time was spent with his three grandchildren Easton Randolph, Cooper Smith, and Maci Smith. He played the role of Paw Paw so well, and his grandchildren loved him dearly.
Steve and Cindy married on July 26, 1986 and had so many wonderful times together. They loved traveling, especially taking cruises with their friends. In addition, Steve enjoyed golfing or watching the Braves and the Miami Dolphins.
Steve and Cindy also faced many struggles with Steve's health. In April of 1990 Steve received a kidney transplant which lasted for 32 years. When his health began to decline, Steve refused to give up and Cindy never wavered as his caregiver. And while Steve's life was short by some measure, he lived it to the fullest.
A memorial service for Steve will be at 6:00 PM, Monday, July 7, 2025, at the Chapel of JC Harwell and Son Funeral Home with Claude Hames officiating with Ricky Ergle assisting. The family will receive friends for visitation from 4 PM until 6 PM at the funeral home prior to the service. JC Harwell and Son Funeral Home has been entrusted with these arrangements. In lieu of flowers, Cindy has asked that donations be made to Central Church of Christ in Covington or the National Kidney Foundation in Steve's honor. And please give the gift of life by becoming an organ donor.
