Susan Jane Peterson, 75, a dearly loved resident and dance instructor of both Frankfort and Martinsville, Indiana passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, from mental and physical decline associated with dementia. She was born October 20, 1948, in Feltwell, England to the late Frank Harry William and Jean Rebecca Alice (Llewellyn) Curtis.
Susan’s youth was spent embracing the love and culture of England’s quaint villages, reading books, singing, acting, and exploring castles and historical artifacts as her grandfather, William Frank Curtis, was a well-known archeologist. Her love of dance became her greatest passion where she attended the Subsidiary of the Royal Ballet in Kings Lynn, England.
After marriage in 1967, Susan moved to Martinsville, where she continued her love of dance and helped teach young children under the direction of Mary Kersting Moore. During this time, she was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she held numerous callings. Working with children in the Primary was always her favorite as she nurtured and enriched lives while showcasing her vocal and creative talents. The younger children were not the only lives that felt Susan’s presence as she was a cherished ministering companion to many and faithfully served making others feel loved, appreciated, and welcome.
After remarrying on August 12, 1982, at the Ogden LDS Temple, she and her family soon moved to Frankfort, where she founded the Peterson Studio of Dance and touched the lives of families across Clinton County and surrounding areas for 30 years. Susan continued to showcase her faith, wisdom, kindness, and playful sense of humor for any who came into contact until her passing.
She leaves behind countless cherished friendships and a blended and loving family including her husband of 41 years, Michael John Peterson of Frankfort; five children, Victoria Jane Gay Pass (husband, Robert) of Martinsville; Brandon Curtis Weaver (wife, Ashlee) of Lebanon, IN; Aaron David Weaver of Kirklin, IN; Christopher Michael Peterson and Nicholas John Kelly Peterson both of Greenwood; grandchildren, Clayton, Mackenzie, Autumn, Hunter, Remy, Nico, Frank, Colt, Aynslee, Margot, and Eleanor Jane; four great-grandchildren, Kolby, Oaklynn, Whitley, and Jettson; and two brothers, Anthony and Frank Curtis of Feltwell, England.
Family, friends, and former students are invited to visit and celebrate her life Saturday, January 13, 2024, from 10am until the time of the funeral service at 1pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2291 Witt Rd, Lebanon, Indiana. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery, in Frankfort. Day & Genda Funeral Home will be assisting with the funeral arrangements. Messages of condolence may be made left at www.dayandgenda.com.
