Susan L. Strollo, affectionately known as Suzie, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2024, at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, NY. Born on February 4, 1951, in New Rochelle, NY, Suzie's life was characterized by her loving nature, strong independence, and the joy she found in the simple pleasures of life.
Suzie was the eldest of five children, a role she embraced with a nurturing and protective spirit. Her formative years in New Rochelle were filled with cherished memories, surrounded by a bustling household that was always filled with laughter and love. Suzie's early love for animals and the ocean, as well as her appreciation for the music of the 60s, remained with her throughout her life and brought her immeasurable happiness.
In 1969, Suzie married John Gherardi, and together they welcomed their beloved daughter, Tracy. Although their marriage ended in divorce in 1988, Suzie and John maintained a close and amicable relationship, a testament to her forgiving heart and enduring kindness. Suzie's move to Hyde Park later in life brought her closer to her aging parents and extended family, allowing her to spend precious time with those she held dear.
Suzie's legacy is lovingly carried on by her daughter, Tracy Gherardi Fay, her son-in-law John Fay, and her five adored grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kevin, Shane, Ryan, and Shannon Fay. Her presence as a mother and grandmother was a constant source of strength and guidance, and her family will forever cherish the moments spent in her company.
She is also survived by her siblings, each of whom shared a special bond with Suzie: her brother Rick Strollo and his wife Diane, her sister Ruth Haines and her husband Ken, and her brother Ron Strollo and his wife Michelle. Suzie's family extended beyond her immediate relatives to include numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, second cousins, and a wide circle of friends, all of whom felt the warmth of her generous spirit.
Suzie's remarkable life was marked by her independence and her giving nature. Whether through her various professional roles in the Westchester County, NY area or her selfless contributions to the lives of those around her, Suzie's impact was profound and far-reaching. Her glowing smile could light up a room, and her unwavering support provided a foundation of love and security for her family.
As we bid farewell to Suzie, we reflect on a life well-lived, a life filled with genuine connections and heartfelt experiences. Her strength and love live on in the memories we hold, a comforting reminder of the remarkable woman we were privileged to know.
Suzie was predeceased by her parents, W. Richard Strollo and Helen L. (Odell), her sister Donna Strollo Tracy, and her first husband John Gherardi. The void left by her passing is felt by all who knew her, but we take solace in knowing that she is now reunited with her loved ones who departed before her.
Suzie's life was a testament to the power of love and the strength of the human spirit. As we honor her memory, we are reminded to embrace each day with the same passion and joy that she did. Suzie's indelible mark on this world will not be forgotten, and her legacy of love will continue to inspire and guide us all.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her name to a local animal shelter would be appreciated.
