Clyde – Ted Underwood, age 75, a true gentleman who was greatly loved by family and friends, and a man who served his country with great honor, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
Ted began his life journey on October 13, 1946. He was born in Haywood County to the late Hilliard Underwood and the late Thelma Elizabeth Penland Underwood. He loved the mountains where he was born and raised and he was always proud to call Haywood County his home. Mr. Underwood was a United States Army Veteran having honorably served his Country in the Vietnam War proudly wearing the "Big Red 1" alongside his comrades in the 1st Infantry Division. In later years, he was active in the DAV Chapter 89 where he served as Junior Vice President. Ted was a plumber by trade and had worked with Perry Plemmons Plumbing Company in Waynesville. Mr. Underwood had also been employed as a manager with the Junaluska Sanitary District. Ted was a talented craftsman and he was well-known for his amazing whittling and woodcarvings that were greatly admired by everyone. The "Mountain Band" of uniquely carved characters, which Ted had brought to life through his skillful carvings, is exemplary of his incredible talents. His great love for spending time outdoors continued all throughout his life, as he went fishing and camping every chance he could find. Mr. Underwood was a man of faith and had attended Rocky Face Baptist Church. Ted Underwood will forever be remembered as a truly good man and a man who loved his family and bravely served his country.
On Sunday evening as the glorious sunset was setting in the evening sky we said goodbye to Ted, a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Our hearts are saddened to lose him but we rejoice for his wonderful life. "Well done thy good and faithful servant."
