Teddy Ronald Coffey Jr., 54, of Dennison, Ohio, passed away suddenly from apparent heart failure on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at Trinity Hospital Twin City in Dennison. Born August 11, 1970 in Lexington, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Teddy Ronald and Ruby (Dyer) Coffey, and was known affectionately as "Ronnie" by many of his family.
Ted grew up in Salyersville, Kentucky and was a graduate of Magoffin County High School before earning his Bachelor of Science from Morehead State University where he was proud to be a member of Theta Chi Fraternity. He was a man consumed by wanderlust throughout his life, and in addition to his many leisure travels around the U.S. and the world, he also loved moving to different parts of the country. After college, he lived in Florida for a time, before relocating to Las Vegas then California. He made Ohio his home for a time and then lived in Minnesota before heading back to California. Finally, he moved to Dennison in 2021 and has resided there since.
An avid sports fan, Ted loved watching football, prize fights, and just about any other sporting event with his family and friends. He also enjoyed playing video games and keeping up with the news and the weather. Most of all, he treasured the time that he spent with those dearest to him which includes his unconditional lifelong friend, Colleen (fiancé, Ryan Amos) McAbee and her son, Grayson McAbee, with whom he had resided. Ted was like a father to Grayson throughout his life and will be deeply missed by the entire family. Ted is also survived by his brother, Johnny Richard (Becca) Coffey; aunts and uncles, Brenda Joseph, Janet and Jim Arnett, Mary Lou Dyer, Rosetta Hammonds, Elwood and Garnett Patrick; a host of cousins, including Augusta (Scott) Helton and Paula (Terry) Flora who were like his big sisters and Charles Corbit "Chopper" Gambill who was like a brother; the Hambleton and Rom-Umali families to whom he was always "Uncle Ted"; and many, many friends around the country.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Dennis Coffey; his maternal grandparents, Grogertine and Elsie Crace Dyer; and paternal grandparents, Emogene Gambill Patrick and Eddie Coffey.
A 1:00 p.m. funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 21, at the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison where his family will receive callers from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., prior to the service. Those wishing to honor his memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the Tuscarawas County Humane Society, 1432 Tall Timber Rd. N.E., New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
