Theodore A. Spalding, 83, a retired New Haven Firefighter, of North Haven passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 4th, 2025 at his home with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of almost 40 years to Debra J. Bornman Spalding. Born in New Haven on December 31st, 1941, Ted was the son of the late Albert and Ethel Gaunya Spalding. A graduate of Eli Whitney Technical High School, Ted later served his country faithfully in the United States Marine Corp for three years. A draftsman by trade, Ted found his true calling as a firefighter, dedicating 27 years of service to the New Haven Fire Department until his retirement. Ted enjoyed telling stories, and was an avid fan of UConn Men's and Women's Basketball as well as the New York Giants. Most of all, Ted enjoyed spending time and celebrating with his family, whom he loved unconditionally. Father of David Gontarz (Karen Logue), Kimberly Gontarz, Kathleen Sparks (Arlon), Patricia Morrell (Dan), Robert Spalding, Krista Paez (Ricky) and the late Theodore R. Spalding. Uncle of Karen Taylor, Christine Hinman, Donna Quartararo (Phil), Sheila Johnson and Nancy Spalding. Also survived by 11 grandchildren and 2 great-granddaughters. Predeceased by a sister Maryjane Andrulatis and brothers Robert and Albert Spalding. The visiting hours will be Tuesday, September 9th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A Funeral Service will be conducted in the funeral home at 7:00 PM. Interment will be on Wednesday, September 10th at 1:30 PM at All Saints Cemetery, 700 Middletown Avenue, North Haven with full military honors. Please meet directly at the cemetery office at 1:15 PM to follow in procession to the graveside. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org/donate
