Thomas (Tom) Edward Hunt, 76, of Palm City, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, November 27th, 2024, at his home surrounded by close family.
Tom was born on June 1st, 1948, to William (Bill) and Margaret (Marge) Hunt in Chicago, Illinois, the oldest of four boys. He grew up on the south side of Chicago, in a predominantly Irish-Catholic neighborhood, where him and his brothers wreaked havoc for the next 20 years. He graduated from Leo High School and DePaul University, both in Chicago, IL.
After college, Tom began selling typewriters for International Business Machines, where he met his future wife, Diana Mitchell. They married on March 15th, 1975, and within six years, welcomed a son and two daughters. Tom soon left IBM to work in medical supply sales, where he excelled, eventually managing large regional and national hospital accounts for Baxter International and Cardinal Health. He won several high-performer sales awards over the years and was universally liked and highly respected by customers and colleagues alike. Near the end of his career, he lovingly supported Diana in her brief battle with cancer. Diana passed on September 21st, 2013.
Along the way, he was remarkably successful in almost every business endeavor he pursued. In collaboration with his brothers, he invested in real estate, helped start and manage a successful family printing business, and co-founded a mildly profitable limo business and irrigation installation company. While the latter two may not have benefited from Tom and his brothers' same Midas touch, they provided the family with countless funny stories and endless entertainment.
After a long successful career, Tom retired in 2016, and moved from Lemont, IL to a beautiful home in Palm City, FL that he and Diana had chosen together. Over the years he loved to golf, fish, and travel to see his children, grandchildren, brothers and friends. He was known for his sharp wit, unrivaled storytelling, and incredible kindness and generosity, something that inspired others around him along the way.
Tom is survived by his three children, Thomas Hunt II, Hilary Hunt, Allison (Brandon Zellner) Hunt, three grandchildren, Paolina Hunt, Mackenzie White and Thomas (aka Tomka) Hunt III, his three brothers, William (Patricia), Patrick (Darlene), and Edward (Chris), Ted and Jean Mitchell and David "Kenny" Mitchell, and several nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Diana Lynn Hunt (née Mitchell), and his parents.
Visitation will be held on Thursday December 5, 2024, from 6-8pm at All County Funeral Home, located at 1010 NW Federal Hwy, Stuart, FL 34994. Funeral Mass will be held Friday December 6, 2024, beginning at 9 am at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1454 SW Mapp Rd, Palm City, FL 34990.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 1301 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20004
