Thomas P. Maurer, 73 of Naples, Fl and formerly of Lake Bluff, Il passed away peacefully on July 6, 2024, surrounded by his wife and family. Beloved husband of Linda Maurer, nee Gosser, loving brother to William Maurer (Maureen) and James Maurer (Heather Dillabough); cherished in-law to his extended family Michael Gosser (Allison), Regina Lindstrom, nee Gosser (Richard), Nancy Puls nee Gosser (Mark) and John Gosser (Diane), and proud uncle to Nicholas, Richard, Michele and Robert.
Tom was born on June 21, 1951, in Evanston, Il to William and Margaret Maurer. Growing up in Glenview, IL as the second of three sons, Tom was a multi-sport athlete and excellent student. After graduating from Notre Dame College Prep, he attended Miami University in Oxford, OH where he received BS degree in accounting.
After graduation, Tom joined the firm of Ernst and Young (formerly Ernst and Ernst) in 1973 where he spent his entire professional career. A CPA, Tom made partner in 1986 and was a highly valued employee, as well as a mentor and role model to countless others in the firm. Tom served on numerous boards, including thirty-five years for the Goodman Theater in Chicago that he deeply enjoyed. He retired from EY in 2011 after 38 years of distinguished service.
Tom married the love of his life Linda in 1977. They spent forty-seven wonderful years together playing golf, travelling the world, and experiencing all that life has to offer.
Tom cherished his time with family and friends. Through the years he enjoyed swimming, softball, basketball, skiing, bocce and playing gin rummy. He was an avid golfer his entire life. Tom led a life with profound love and respect for others, always projected a positive outlook and had a dry sense of humor. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be Tuesday July 16 at 9:15 am followed by a mass at 10:00am at Our Lady of Perpetual Hope located at 1775 Grove St., Glenview, IL. Live Stream Link

I worked with Tom during my days at EY and knew him to be an extremely kind and upbeat person. No matter what the situation Tom would always make things seem better. When I was going trough a difficult time Tom was there to just listen provide support. He was a fantastic person and I know he is up in heaven making everyone laugh. Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the loss of Tom.

Way back when, our tennis group saw that Tom and Linda were the perfectly matched pair. She had to make only one correction: Her birthday arrived and she was trying to guess what extraordinary, exotic gift Tom would give. She opened a large box to find -- an appliance (microwave?) She said he told her: "But you said you needed that!" He learned never again to give an appliance as a gift. So precious. So perfect. So funny.

The O'Malley Family sends our love. We have wonderful memories growing up of celebrating summer holidays with Tom's family in our backyards and getting into all sorts of mischief. Tom was a prince of a guy. I'll always remember his wonderful smile and easy way with people.
Love from Kathy, Mary, Maggie, John & Tom
