Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mr. Thomas Earl "Sonny" McCarter, 78, of Anniston, will be held on Friday, July 5, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of White Plains. Rev. Eric Snider will be officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow the service in Maple Grove Cemetery.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, T.J. McCarter and Virginia McDowell McCarter.
Those left to cherish the memory of Sonny include his wife of 58 years, Sue McCarter; his children, Darrell McCarter (Sharon), Stan McCarter (Courtney), and Gloria Rajasingam; four grandchildren, Andrew McCarter, Torianna McCarter Cook (Bryce), Randle Cobb (Danyelle), and Dustin Cobb; and ten great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Andrew McCarter, Doyle Jordan, Rip Faulkner, Robbie Anderson, Randy Bentley, and Ricky Turner. Honorary pallbearers will be the First Baptist Church of White Plains Auditorium Class.
Sonny was drafted into the US Army, five days after marrying his beautiful bride, and served his country during the Vietnam War. He was a man of faith and was devoted to serving his Lord and Savior. Sonny was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of White Plains and the Auditorium Sunday School Class. He was an avid golfer, enjoying the sport with many friends and family over the years. Sonny also enjoyed classic cars of all kinds. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to pick on others. If you knew Sonny, you knew he was never late for anything and he was dependable and loyal in all areas of his life. Sonny had a passion for serving at church and being a deacon. He also found much joy in working with Helping Hands. To know Sonny was to love him. He gave selflessly to his family, to his country, and to his church, and will forever be remembered for the wonderful man he was.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Building Fund at First Baptist Church of White Plains, 160 White Plains Road, Anniston, AL 36207.
