Thomas Williams McConn died at his home in Humble, Texas, on November 25, 2023. He was 73. Through a long career he had been a dedicated and compelling teacher whose gentle influence will be missed by all who knew him.

Born in Valley City, North Dakota, on February 12, 1950, Tom was the son of Charlotte (Muhs) and Dean McConn. He attended Valley City schools and graduated from high school in 1968. After earning degrees in history from Jamestown College and UND, he went on to further graduate studies at the University of Houston. Through those years he enjoyed a teaching career which began in Tappen and Fargo in North Dakota, took him to Morocco for many years and brought him, with his family, to the Lone Star Colleges of Houston.

His high school and college students remember his sense of humor, great memory and deep love of learning. His friendliness and ability to find common ground with pretty well everyone came easily as he was a man of many interests. There were jazz and movies to talk about, books and sports and tv, the news and everything political, and most of all, people and their lives, whether everyday people or historical figures.

His family remembers with gratitude his warm encouragement in their endeavors and his way of enriching their worlds with his interests.

Tom leaves behind his companion Karen; a daughter Hannah McKee; two sons, Khalid (Duke) and Mouncef (Billy); two grandchildren, Everleigh and Jaxon; a brother Richard and wife Mili and their family; many cousins and friends. Tom was preceded in death by his parents.
