Thomas Michas was born on January 27, 1948 in Herrin, Illinois to Rose Helen Michas and Anton "Tony" Michas and died peacefully at age 74, on August 30, 2022 in Fort Walton Beach Rehabilitation Center in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
Tom was challenged at birth by Cerebral Palsy; however, he never let anything stop him from living his fullest life. Learning to walk with the aid of crutches, in no time, Tom was driving a car. He enjoyed life; loved his family, country, God, and pursued his interests with great passion and energy. Tom was at his happiest when going out of his way to be of service to his community, the citizens of Okaloosa County, Florida. Taking great pride in helping stomp-out crime as a volunteer of Okaloosa County Sheriff's Posse, he was their first honorary member; inducted in 1984. Later, Tom volunteered for the Mental Health Association of Okaloosa/Walton Counties charity fundraising team. He received numerous awards for his years of service in both of these organizations; including "Volunteer of the Year" from the Mental Health Association, and Outstanding Community Service Awards for 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. Most of all, Tom loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; he was a member of Saints Markella and Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church.
Tom was the youngest of three children and is survived by his two brothers, Dr. George A. Michas of Fort Walton Beach, FL. (wife, Nina Michas) and John A. Michas of Hoffman Estates, IL. (wife, Jane Michas); nieces and nephews, Dr. Elizabeth Michas of Fort Walton Beach, FL., Dr. Paul Michas (Julie Michas) of Albany, GA., Dr. Catherine Michas of Fort Walton Beach, FL. and Dr. Andrew Michas (Francine Michas) of Albany, GA., and Pamela Katchen (Rob Katchen) of Fox River Grove, IL; grand nieces and nephews: Larisa Salisbury, Michael Michas (wife, Delanie), Dr. Christopher Michas, Nick Michas, Alexandria Michas, Michael Michas, Samantha Katchen, Alison Katchen, Madison Katchen; and a great-grandniece, Scarlett Michas. He was preceded in death by his parents Anton (Tony) and Rose; his nephew, Steven Michas; and grandniece, Elise Salisbury.

When someone you love departs, their memory becomes a treasure. Those we have loved become part of us. They live on within our thoughts, our dreams and our hearts. Those we love are never really lost they continue to contribute to our lives in profound ways. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our minds. Tom's lessons about service, love, faith and humbleness were often taught by his actions, without words. May his memory be eternal.
