Thomas Morris Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 21, 2025.
Thomas Morris, Jr. passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2025 with his children by his side. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family at Paul Ippolito-Dancy Memorial, 9 Smull Ave., Caldwell, NJ, on Sunday, March 23 from 2 to 6 PM. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Aloysius Church in Caldwell on Monday, March 24 at 10:30 AM, followed by interment at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Franklin, NJ.
Tom was born on April 19, 1933 in Franklin to the late Thomas and Marguerite Morris. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1950 where he was senior class president, valedictorian, and played basketball, baseball and football, earning first team All State Group I honors in both baseball and football. He played two seasons of semipro football with the Franklin Miners, and was inducted into the Sussex County Sports Hall of Fame in 1993.
Tom graduated from Seton Hall University in 1954 and married the former Alice McGlew in 1958. They had six children and a blessed 59-year marriage before her passing in 2017.
Tom started his Verona teaching and coaching career in 1956 as a math teacher at H.B. Whitehorne Middle School. He retired from the Verona school system in 1988 after 33 years of service. He also coached several sports at Verona High School, including nine seasons as the VHS baseball coach and 12 years as head and assistant coach of the VHS football team. He was inducted into the Verona Sports Hall of Fame in 2006. He treasured his memories of his days in Verona and his associations with fellow teachers, coaches, students, parents and athletes. He loved helping people, mentoring many, and enjoyed learning from all. He was also the founder and President of Trav-Mor Tours, a group tour company that operated for more than 40 years.
Tom was devoted to his Catholic Faith, and was a daily Communicant and lector at St. Aloysius Church for many years. He lived his Faith in every aspect of his life: his devotion to his wife Alice and their family, his concern for others, his honesty in business, and his support for the unborn. Above all, he loved and wholeheartedly supported his family and delighted in every accomplishment, large or small. We will forever remember, love and miss him, and try to follow his example.
Tom was the beloved husband of the late Alice McGlew Morris. He is survived by his dear sister, Sister Thomas Marie, O.P. He was also the loving father of Tom and his wife Colleen, Mary LaMagna, Eileen Smith and her husband Tim, Kevin Morris, Colleen Terracciano and her husband Ken, and Katie Feeney and her husband Rick; proud grandfather of Timmy and his wife Ally, Kathleen and her husband John Michael, Colleen and her husband Greg, Maria and her husband Carlos, Jamie and her husband T.J., Olivia and her husband Tom, Tony, Jessica and her husband Will, Sean, Erin and her husband Keegan, Joseph, Eric, Peter, Lizzie, Robby, and Ryan; and great grandfather of Maria, Nick, George, Margot, Memo, Audrey, Raymond, Madeline, Grace, Patrick and Phoebe, and was eagerly awaiting the impending arrival of four more.
In lieu of flowers, please consider arranging a Mass and praying for the repose of his soul.
