On May 3rd, the world lost a great husband, father, grandfather, and above all - friend. Dr. Thomas Stephen Murray, 72, of Midwest City, OK passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones, of which there were many.
Son of Howard and Esther, Tom was born in Punxsutawney, PA on April 22, 1953 before the family moved to Erie, PA. It was there that Tom would discover the things he loved most, old wooden boats and making sure the lake was behaving itself.
He met Julie Murray (Massing) and the two married after a not-so-brief time dating. Together, they raised 5 children, Ryan Murray (Jasmine), Erin Acuff (Ryan), Colleen Rzomp (JR), Patrick Murray, and Kevin Murray (Alden). A loving father who taught his kids to excel in the things they set their minds on, just as he had done. Tom loved to teach, serving as residency director for Oklahoma Podiatrists. He also served as president of the Oklahoma Podiatric Medical Association and served on its board of delegates. On top of a fruitful professional career, Tom surrounded himself with many friends who would grow to see him as a brother. The temperature of a room would rise when he entered it, often with a guitar. He is remembered fondly and missed dearly by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, as well as his sister Kathy Keller. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren Luke Rzomp, Casey Rzomp, Connor Acuff, Nora Acuff, and Cullen Acuff, as well as his sisters Patricia Welch (William) and Elaine Murray. He is remembered with love and laughter by all.
A formal visitation will be held on Thursday, May 8th at Barnes-Friedrich & Pope Funeral Home in Midwest City, OK from 6pm-7pm, with a prayer service starting at 7:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 9th at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church at 10:30am. A celebration of life will be held in Erie, PA at a later date. Flowers can be sent to Barnes-Friedrich & Pope Funeral Home in Midwest City, OK. Donations can be made in Thomas' name to either the Wounded Warriors Project or the St. Vincent de Paul Society at 1107 Felix Pl, Midwest City, OK 73110. I had the great privilege of working with Dr Murray at Surgical Hospital many years. He was a mentor to the all the residents who worked with him. Had a great sense of humor. My favorite story he would tell was about "sprinkles" in his bed after grandkids visited. When I left SHO he came to me and said the kindest words to me regarding helping train the residents. He cared deeply for his patients and was an employee advocate. This is a huge loss to all who knew him. Blessings to his family. He was so loved by many

Dr. Murray was just about the finest person I´ve ever met. He touched my life in so many ways.
For 10 years we worked together every Wednesday and Friday. He gave me grief every time in his hilarious fashion. He told Italian jokes and I told Irish jokes. His humor was unsurpassed. There were always "Murrayisms " floating around the OR.
He was also so kind and always supportive. He will be sorely missed and NEVER forgotten.
I feel blessed to be able to say
I KNEW AND ADMIRED DR MURRAY.
