Walsh, Thomas M. (Tommy) of Lakewood, NJ passed away on Monday, June 30th, 2025 at the age of 66. He was born in Japan in September of 1958 and raised in Neptune, NJ by his adoptive parents Robert and Georgina Walsh.
Tommy graduated from Neptune High School in 1978 and then continued his education at West Virginia University graduating with his degree in Physical Education.
He returned to his hometown and began what would become a 40 year career in the Neptune Township Public School System. During his tenure he impacted so many lives through his physical education, health, and driver's education classes, and as a football, wrestling, and weight lifting coach. After an incredible career, he decided to retire at the closing of the 2024 - 2025 school year.
Outside of work, he was extremely passionate about his family and could always be found supporting one of his grandchildren, nieces, or nephews at sporting events, graduations, or life celebrations. When they weren't at family celebrations, he and his beloved wife, Ayn, who were together for 18 years, took many adventures together - exploring new restaurants, cities, or visiting family who lived far away.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents Robert & Georgina Walsh. He is survived by his wife Ayn Walsh; step children Kirstin (Rob) Roberson of Neptune, NJ, Brittany Little of Shrewsbury, NJ, and Ashley Devlin of North Carolina; siblings Deborah (Rich) Tyrrell of Neptune, NJ, Elizabeth Wade of Lewes, DE, Darrell Gettman of Denver, CO; Grandchildren Andre Harris of Neptune, NJ, Robbie Roberson of Neptune, NJ, Cristian Jimenez of Shrewsbury, NJ, Daron Clay of North Carolina, Serenity Clay of North Carolina, and Saniya Devlin of North Carolina ; Nieces and Nephews Robert (Autumn) Walsh of New Franken, WI, Rebecca Tyrrell of Philadelphia, PA, Christopher Wade of Lewes, DE, Bethany Wade of Lewes, DE, Katherine Callaway of Seaford, DE, Anna Gonzalez of Dallas, TX, Richard Tyrrell JR of Neptune, NJ, Cynthia (Matthew) Tyrrell of Neptune, NJ; and many more great-nieces and great-nephews.

Coach Walsh was one of the most influential people in my life. He was my football line coach and wrestling coach, but more than that-he was a mentor, a role model, and a steady hand at a time I truly needed one. Any success I´ve had in life, I know he had a hand in shaping.

I´ll never forget the post-season steak dinners at Murphy´s in Red Bank-he took us all out on his own dime, not for praise, but because that´s who he was. Generous, tough, and full of heart. I wish I had stayed in better touch with him over the years, but life has a way of creating space between people. Still, his voice, his lessons, and his spirit never left me.

Coach Walsh made a lasting impact on so many of us. The train will keep moving, but it won´t run as steady or as fast without him yelling at us to get up and go. Rest easy, Coach. You will never be forgotten.
