It is with deep sorrow that we announce that Dr. Troy Dean Savant, (57), of Reno, Nevada suffered a heart attack and passed away unexpectedly on April 18th, 2024 surrounded by his beloved family. A born and raised Nevadan, Troy was foremost a husband and father as well as a friend to all who knew him, a valued member of the dental community, and a devoted follower of Christ.
Born in Reno, he grew up in Ely, Nevada with his sister Staci and twin brother Kevin. The Savant twins were known for their antics from Currant Creek to McGill, and together they made some of their favorite memories during the summers they spent cowboying with their Uncle Ronnie. Troy attended White Pine High School where he was a star athlete and quarterback of the varsity football team.
He married his best friend and high school sweetheart, Alyson Wilkin, in 1988. Together, Troy and Alyson completed their undergraduate degrees at the University of Nevada, Reno. Troy then earned his dental degree with honors from the University of Colorado and completed a residency in General Dentistry at the VA Medical Center in Denver. Deciding to further specialize, he pursued a second residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, during which the first of his three children was born.
Troy was a talented surgeon and devoted nearly 23 years to his private practice. He also served as membership chair of the Northern Nevada Dental Society and, for many years, as a delegate of the Nevada Dental Association. He generously shared his time and talents with numerous charities, including Northern Nevada Dental Health Programs, Remote Area Medical, Facilitate Joy, and the Adopt A Vet Dental Program to help improve the lives and health of those in need.
Troy's legacy extends far beyond his accomplishments as a surgeon. Baptized in 2004, he was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a steadfast friend within his community. Above all he cherished his family, and was a loving husband, father, son, brother and uncle. He was immensely proud of his three children-Taylor, Kennedy, and Gage. He will be remembered always for his generosity of spirit, his playful sense of humor, and his mastery on the grill. Though he could be his own toughest critic, anyone who's been lucky enough to sit at his table can attest to the fact that his barbecue was second to none.
He leaves behind his parents, Gene and Vicki Piccinini; his beloved wife, Alyson; his children, Taylor (Anthony) Cuccia, Kennedy Savant, and Gage Savant; and his siblings, Staci Radican and Kevin (Sage) Savant along with his nieces and nephews; and his aunt, Ramona Savant.
Troy's family will be hosting a memorial service on Saturday, April 27th at 11AM at the LDS Church at 4850 Edmonton Dr. in Reno, Nevada. All are invited to join in remembering Troy. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the aforementioned charities or to the General Missionary Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; Dr. Savant often performed pro-bono services for youth preparing to depart for their missions.
To know Troy was to love him. His memory will live on in all those who cherish him.
