Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Venetta Hullinger Probst, passed away peacefully in the morning of January 15, 2025. Surrounded by her children, she waited until the all- night family gathering came to an end before quietly slipping out of the party. She was 83 years old.
Venetta was born the youngest child, and only daughter to Harold Everett and Jennie Lewis Hullinger on October 3, 1941 in Vernal, Utah. She was her parents' delight, and had five handsome older brothers who all adored their baby sister. As a young lady, Venetta loved her horses, barrel racing, dancing, and she was homecoming queen at Uintah High School. In 1959 she graduated high school and left Vernal to attend Brigham Young University in Provo, UT, where she soon met Glen W. Probst.
After their first date to the local bowling alley - the rest is history. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on September 19, 1960. The couple grew their family of 10 children as they moved across the country for Glen's doctoral program and employment at various universities. Utah, Ohio, Michigan, Montana, Mexico, and Idaho - each state brought new adventures and at least one or two new children to the family. They finally settled back in Orem, Utah where they resided for nearly 40 years.
Venetta's life was given in service to those around her. Her touch was gentle and comforting. She gave the best arm tickles if you were lucky enough to sit next to her. She loved babies. Especially her grandbabies. She always knew just how to calm them or make them laugh. Venetta fed everyone. No one left her home hungry. She could throw together a fast feast for the masses out of seemingly nothing, or make eggs on short order as individuals straggled into the house. There was a sheet cake to commemorate every birthday which included her cake-extender recipe for boxed cake mix. Her homemade bread was a neighborhood staple. Six loaves were made nearly every other day. The aroma of home baked bread greeted you as far as the front sidewalk as you approached the house.
Venetta had a warmth about her and the gift of gab. She was easy to talk with as she was genuinely interested in others. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and love. She is already missed.
Venetta was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and her brothers, Hugo (Enid) Hullinger, Paul (Marjorie) Hullinger, Don (Elsie) Hullinger, and Floyd (Glenna) Hullinger. She is survived by her brother Richard (JeNee) Hullinger, and her children: Bradley G. (Diane) Probst of Highland, Utah; Angela (Michael) Reeves of Orem, Utah; Jennifer (Scott) Hales, of Queen Creek, Arizona; Rachelle (Brent) Packer of Cedar Hills, Utah; Benjamin W. (Carolina) Probst of Lehi, Utah; Charmain (Barret) Runyon of Fort Worth, Texas; Brian H. Probst of Provo, Utah; Emily (David) Lesher of Woodland Hills, Utah; Allison (Brandon) Barber of Wichita, Kansas, and Daniel C. (Kimber) Probst of Herriman, Utah. At the time of her passing she had 36 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren with three more on the way.
