Vera C. Mandarino

A beautiful soul has left this earth. Vera Mandarino passed away unexpectedly on April 8, 2025. Vera was born in New York City on September 8, 1949 to Sarah (Gaudio) and Anthony Capuano. The oldest of four children, she attended St. Lucy's in the Bronx and then went on to Cardinal Spellman High School, where she excelled in all of her classes and practiced her gift of gab while on the student council.
When she was just 17, she met her great love, Mario. She attended Hunter College and by the age of 21 was married. She then worked on Wall Street for several years until she decided to stay at home to raise her family. Vera was a doting wife, a loving mother, and an incredible cook and homemaker. She returned to the workforce at the A. MacArthur Barr Middle School in Nanuet, where she served as the guidance office secretary for 24 years. Vera always went out of her way to help everyone there and she did it all with a smile.
Vera was a great woman of faith and she was heavily involved in her beloved parish, St. Anthony's in Nanuet. She sang in the church choir for over 25 years and always looked forward to the various concerts and special holiday masses. It was in the choir where she met some of her closest friends. Vera was also the mastermind behind the church's annual St. Joseph's feast, where she helped to cook for over 200 parishioners and guests. Vera was also a member of the Blessed Mother Sodality, the Parish Players, and the St. Anthony's Seniors.
Vera was happiest when she was spending time with her precious family, cooking, and singing. She was predeceased by her son Joseph and husband Mario. She is survived by her adoring daughters Kristin (Michael) and Lauren, daughter-in-law Kristina, sisters Marie (Joseph) and Judy (Vincent), brother Carl (Elizabeth), sister-in-law Marisa (Frank), and her cherished nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place at the Joseph W. Sorce Funeral Home in West Nyack, NY on April 21, 2025 from 9-11 am. A Catholic mass and burial will follow at St. Anthony's Parish Church in Nanuet, NY at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Anthony's Church.
