Vera Genevieve (Batterson) Traxler passed away at the age of 96, on Thursday, October 10, 2024. She had resided at the Washington County Nursing Home – Harmony House, for almost six years.
Vera was born at her parents' homestead on December 20, 1927. She was the third child of Leonard Malachi Batterson and Alice Ruth (Reynolds) Batterson. She attended the White Country School until her 8th grade graduation. She attended her freshman year of high school at Platner then transferred to Akron High School where she graduated in May 1946.
On May 25, 1946, Vera married her Army sweetheart, Bill Sherman Traxler. They had corresponded during his time in the service. When he was discharged and Bill returned to Colorado, he surprised Vera with silk from Japan for her wedding dress. They eloped to St. Francis, Kansas with her brother, Leonard "Bud" Batterson and his wife Sharon to witness the wedding. They made their home at her parents' former house when Leonard and Alice moved to Akron, CO. With her love for children, Vera taught for 2 terms at the White Country School, after they were married.
The couple raised 3 children: Gary Dwayne, Kathy Arlene, and Randy LaDean. Throughout their lives, they attended the Akron Assembly of God Church, where Vera taught Sunday School for many years and was also active in the women's missionary program. During their final years, they worshipped at the Akron Foursquare Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Bill, her sister Emily Waitley, and brother Leonard Batterson Jr.
Left to mourn her passing are her three children, 3 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson. Vera will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the Akron Foursquare Church. Interment will follow at the Akron Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Akron Foursquare Church.
