Wayne Mitchell McDonald passed away unexpectedly on April 4, 2024, after a short illness.
Wayne was born in Greenwood, SC, the son of Henry Otto McDonald and Sarah Mitchell McDonald. He was the youngest of 11 children.
On March 2, 1964, Wayne joined the US Marine Corps (Semper Fi), and served in Vietnam in the VMFA-314, a.k.a., "The Black Knights", a distinguished unit that received numerous awards and recognition.
Upon returning home from the war, Wayne enrolled in the University of South Carolina, graduating with a degree in Business, and set his sights on real estate.
During his long real estate career, Wayne won many prestigious awards; he was a member of the Hilton Head Association of Realtors, and the Hilton Head MLS where he served on the board sharing his vast knowledge of the real estate market. He was the Broker/Owner of Premier Island Properties and Old Town Bluffton Properties, selling upper tier residential real estate and vast tracks of land in the South Carolina Low Country from Charleston to Savannah.
A loving, faithful husband and father, Wayne loved his family and God with all his heart. He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
Wayne was happiest sailing the high seas in his yar sailing vessel, The True Love. He loved living on the high bluff of the May River, dancing to Beach Music, a good oyster roast, cycling, walking the beach and traveling with his wife Simone.
A true Southern gentleman, Wayne was our rock in times of trouble-a wonderful man larger than life, with his huge kind heart, his booming laugh, great sense of humor and beautiful blue eyes. Wayne was dearly loved and will be forever missed and in our hearts.
Wayne was preceded in death by his son, Colton Sands McDonald.
He is survived by his wife, Simone Griffeth McDonald, daughters Suzanna Rose McDonald, Savannah Dawn Foster, son Joseph Ridge McDonald (Holly), grandson John Cassian West McDonald, his best friend John Dial, and his beloved Siamese cat, Mr. Chow.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 12, with visitation at 12 noon and the funeral service at 1pm at Saul's Funeral Home in Bluffton, SC.
All are welcome to come with good memories to say their farewells and give Wayne a proper send off..until we meet him again.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Hospital for Children, to St. Luke's Episcopal Church, or the Veteran's charity of your choice.

Wayne McDonald, fond memories. He was our Broker-in-Charge at Wexford Realty when the office was a single wide trailer in front of Wexford. Always a gentleman and an elequent voice.

Wayne was such a gentleman who loved his family WELL! His son Joseph was such a nice friend to Jonathan. May God give you all peace during this difficult time of the loss of a dear man. I will never forget his warm smile when he saw me and discussed all of his children. Love to you all, Ann Lively
