FALLEN JESUIT BLUEJAY (CLASS OF 1957)LEAVES A LEGACY OF LAUGHTER
Wayne Owen Weilbaecher, Sr, age 86, of Covington, La. passed away Saturdaymorning August 16, 2025, peacefully at his residence. He was born on July 4,1939, in New Orleans, to James E. Weilbaecher, Sr. and Audrey Hagstette-Weilbaecher. He is also preceded by death by his oldest son, Wayne OwenWeilbaecher, Jr.
Born on America's birthday, what a fitting day of the year for a red hair baby toburst into the world with fireworks celebration in the background. Aftergraduating from Jesuit High School, he worked in the finance business for eightyears. But his true talent was in the sales industry. He worked as manager atMossy Olds until he and his friend opened their own car lot. He was a naturalsalesman due to his personality and instant connection with people.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 66 years, Fay Brauner Weilbaecher, his sons,Kurt Charles Weilbaecher (Ana) of Mandeville, Kyle Lee Weilbaecher (Rollynn) ofCovington, Scott David Weilbaecher (Leanne) of Holden, LA, 5 grandchildren,Jonathan Weilbaecher of Los Angeles, Priscilla Weilbaecher of Covington,Forrest Weilbaecher of Covington, Chris Weilbaecher of Mandeville and RubyWeilbaecher of Mandeville. His brothers, James E. Weilbaecher, Jr. (Thea) of N.C.and Kerry Weilbaecher of Georgia.
An obituary is supposed to be serious, but Wayne wouldn't want us to honor himin this way. He would want us to recall some of the funny antics throughout his86 years on this earth. Like his great idea of catching our missing hamster bycutting a hole in the wall and sticking a head of lettuce in the hole to lure him outor when he decided to bring back a baby alligator who was frozen solid when weforgot him outside by putting straw down his neck and tried to resuscitate him. We'll sorely miss Wayne's sparkling wit and his ability to turn everyday troublesinto chuckles. This obituary isn't to mourn - it's to remember all the joy andabsurdity Wayne brought into the world. He taught us to laugh at ourselves, never take life too seriously, and always keep a rubber chicken handy, just incase. As we gather to remember Wayne, the stories are plentiful and the laughtergenuine and so recognizable. His impact circulates silly tradition he started, andevery joke still circulates among friends. So, here's to Wayne: May we allremember to laugh, to love, and to keep the joy active, one joke at a time.
