Dr. William Josef Cauffman (Bill), 96, passed away on February 16, 2025, at Chandler Hall in Newtown, PA. He was well respected, loved by many and will be sorely missed. Bill was born July 16, 1928, in Lansing, MI. He was the son of Josef Cauffman and Gertrude (London) Cauffman. His siblings were brother Peter Cauffman and sister Mary J. (Cauffman) Richardson.
Bill moved with his family from Lansing to Philadelphia, PA during his youth, where he attended Friend's Central School in his high school years. He then attended Dickenson College in Carlisle, PA. and continued to Temple Medical School in Philadelphia. Here he earned his Doctorate in Internal Medicine, and met his future wife, nurse Hazel Keller. After service in the U.S. Navy, Bill and Hazel opened and operated a family care practice in Selinsgrove, PA, before relocating to fill a need in the freshly built community of Levittown PA, partnering with former Dickenson classmate Dr. Gordon Pauley in his booming family practice.
Bill was a skilled and trusted family physician to generations of Levittown residents, serving his patients for over 50 years. He was active in Boy Scouts and the Exchange Club of Levittown and Newtown. He and his family enjoyed vacations on the Jersey Shore, fishing, skiing, and boating on the Delaware River and the Chesapeake Bay.
Bill was a member of Emily Methodist Church of Levittown, Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Huntington Valley and the New Life Christian Church of Newtown. He was the devoted husband of 72 years to Hazel (Keller) Cauffman. He was predeceased by his parents Josef and Gertrude, brother Peter (Grace), sister Mary Joanne Richardson (Henry) and wife Hazel. He is survived by daughters Susan (Rich) Wagner, Mary Cauffman, and sons Bill (Karen) Cauffman and Kris Cauffman. He was the proud grandfather of Kaitlyn (Joel) Casale, Christina (Jeff) Ward and Kevin Cauffman. He was great-grandfather of Hudson Ward and Julian Casale. Bill was also a loving uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to Bill's Life Celebration on Friday, March 7, 2025 from 10 to 11 AM, and to his funeral service at 11:00 AM at New Life Christian Church, 4 Freedom Way, Newtown, PA 18940. Dr. Caufman was our family physician since we moved to Levittown in the early 60's. I remember all three of the doctors were willing to make house calls. My Mom seemed to have them on "speed dial" for me. Dr. Caufman continued to be my mom's physician. They were born a day and a year apart. He became a friend to her for life.

He was our beloved family physician for years even making house calls when my grandfather was unable to walk. I remember his gentle demeanor and humor which made going to the doctor´s a good thing. I was never frightened. He has always been remembered within our family with gratitude and affection. Nancy Borkey Daniel´s

Dr Cauffman was my personal physician as well as my employer. I worked for Medical Arts for 40 years and he always treated his employees like family and would do anything to help us in any way. He was kind, dedicated, personable and loving.
I will miss him and all his caring ways and his expertise. I know he was meant to be with Hazel again. Such a wonderful couple.

Uncle Bill was like a second Dad to me.
I will always remember his joy and laughter.
I will miss his kindness, calm, determination, stubbornness, generosity to help all of us, great love, creativity, spontaneity, and joy of life.
Uncle Bill always helped the family medically and personally.
I can imagine that he is playing pranks with his brother Pete, my dad, on their sister Mary. With my Mom, Grace, Pete´s wife and Aunt Hazel, Uncle Bill´s wife, and Uncle Henry, Aunt Mary´s husband looking on and laughing and dancing with hats on doing THE PETE to "ELVIRA"!
I will love and miss you forever, Uncle Bill.
Love your niece, Julie
