In Loving Memory of William H. "Bill" Truitt
William H. "Bill" Truitt of Saint Peters, Missouri, passed away on October 2, 2025.
Bill was a devoted father and husband, a respected educator, and a compassionate soul who left a lasting impact on countless lives. As a Headmaster, Principal, and teacher, he shaped the minds and hearts of thousands of students throughout his career. His legacy in education was marked by his unwavering commitment to fairness, his ability to see the best in people, and his deep understanding of the bigger picture. Bill believed in equality and in cultivating the strengths of those around him, always striving to create better outcomes for everyone.
Above all, Bill was a kind and thoughtful man. He cherished his family and those close to him. He is survived by his loving daughters, Janita (Matthew) Brockman and Joy (William) Fowler; his brother, Glenn Tom Truitt; his grandchildren, Lucas Knoph, Brady Turnbaugh, and Reagan Turnbaugh; and his long-time companion, Barb Scharnhorst. He was also a beloved husband, brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle, and friend to many.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife Janetha Mitchell Truitt, his parents, Howard Earl and Mary Margaret Haper Truitt, and his sisters, Mary Ann Cummins and Donna Spencer.
His life was a testament to the power of kindness, purpose, and leadership. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in memory of William H. Truitt to Forrest Park Forever or the Missouri Botanical Garden. A private family ceremony will be held next summer at his beloved cabin at Lake Tahoe.
