Florette Rita Roussel George, age 87, passed away on Tuesday October 23, 2018 in Kingwood, Texas. Flo was born in Paulina, LA on August 31, 1931 to Oliver and Isabel Roussel.
She worked for Shell Oil Company after high school, where she met her husband, Hiram (Hi). From there, she and Hi started their life journey together, moving frequently due to his professional career at Shell and his military career; including stops in Quantico, Virginia, Pensacola, Florida, New Jersey, and Washington. Hi and Flo were able to plant their roots while living in River Plantation in Conroe, TX and made many friends there. Flo was a dedicated mother to her four kids, all of whom graduated from Conroe High School, an amazing cook, and a pretty good tennis player at the River Plantation Country Club. She loved dancing, especially jitter-bugging with Hi, hanging out with her friends, having a good time, and traveling with trips to Acapulco, Hawaii, Palm Springs, Bahamas, Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Alaska, and various cruises. Flo and Hi moved to Kingwood, TX, where they were able to be closer to their children and grandchildren and enjoyed being grandparents.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Hiram George, brother Robert Roussel, sisters Dorothy Ayme and Annabelle Fuselier. She survived by her sister, Delores Landeche and brother, Gerald Roussel, children, Lynn (Jeff) DeMuynck, Reed (Dana) George, Lee (Shane) Andrepont and Rick (Tiffany) George, grandchildren; Holly (Andy) Berndt, Jeffrey (Amanda) DeMuynck, James DeMuynck, Taylor George, Kimberlyn George, Jordan Andrepont, Logan Andrepont, Parker George, and Danielle George and great grandchildren; Alex and Elsie Berndt. A visitation with a rosary service was held at Darst Funeral Home in Kingwood from 6-8 pm Friday, November 2, 2018 and a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Martha's Catholic Church in Kingwood, Texas at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2018 with Father T.J. Dolce, celebrant followed by the sharing of food and fond memories in the Gardens back at Darst Funeral Home. She was laid to rest in Houston National Cemetery on Monday, November 5, 2018.
Flo fought a long battle against dementia and when Hi passed in 2012, she went to live at Houston Extended Care in Kingwood, TX. The family would like to thank the loving care from their staff of Houston Extended Care, Daniela, Anne, Estera, Gaby, Shelby, Toni and Loni and the amazing staff at Texas Elite Hospice, Alma, Nicole, Edmundo, Tracy and Sandy Martin. We are all grateful for the support of everyone involved. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at darstfuneralhome.com .
