Philip Lively Obituary

Philip Reed Lively, 83, passed away on November 27, 2020 in Houston, Texas. Phil was born on July 4, 1937 in Steelton, Pennsylvania to Henry B. Lively and Anna (Michaels) Lively. He is survived by his daughter and husband, Amy and Gregg Langford; his son and wife, Andy and Katrina Lively; grandchildren, Barrett Langford, Bryan Philip Langford, Austin Purser, Kennedy Purser; and many nieces and nephews. Phil was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Jo Ann Barrett Lively, older brother John T. Lively, two sisters, Lizzie Morehart and Mary Ellen Grika, and an infant brother, Henry B. Lively.

Phil earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Education from Shippensburg University in Shippensburg Pennsylvania where he served as class president. His love of learning and gift of leadership led to many rewarding jobs. He served a short stent in the U.S. Army, as a cook. He was a high school business teacher and private investigator for the Internal Revenue Service. From 1976 to 1994, Phil was the President and CEO of North Houston Pole Line, which became the largest privately-owned Electric Power Line Contracting firm in the State of Texas. He later owned several other companies including Power Supply, Perry Services and The Lively Leasing Company. Phil also worked at Kingwood Travel and acquired his Chauffeur's License. He continued to work after retirement as a tax preparer and office manager at H & R Block in Kingwood, Texas. Most recently, he was appointed to the Harris County Appraisal Review Board and was a substitute teacher.

Phil had many interests and hobbies including fishing, cooking and playing the banjo. He faithfully served in many leadership capacities for over 40 years at Kingwood United Methodist Church and was a member and treasurer of the Agape Sunday Class. Phil's success in business, and belief in giving back, lead his heart for years of quiet and significant church stewardship. Most times, anonymously....
