Just found out! So sad. Bill was one of my favorite people, and the best role model a young scientist could dream of. Terrific with people--and a solid scientist too. He had a major impact in my life and career---I know this is true for many others too---and I will miss him. We used to call him "Billy Bob" at the meetings. Boy could he spin some stories!!

My condolences to Bill’s family. I was one of the many scientists impacted by his contributions at Baylor, and I always enjoyed talking with him. Always an encouragement.

I had the distinct pleasure of working with Dr. Brinkley in the early 2000's, advocating at the Texas Legislature to prevent research bans. Dr. Brinkley was the perfect advocate. He was open, kind, unassuming, and could explain the complexities of esc so that non-research people could understand it. He always made time to travel to Austin to testify or educate a group of legislators. I am in awe of the contributions he made to medical research, and to teaching and mentoring young scientists. His was a life well lived. Rest in Peace friend. Ellen Arnold

I had the privilege of working with Bill Brinkley in several venues, including the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, The Academy of Medicine, Engineering and Science of Texas, and Texans for the Advancement of Medical Research. He was an ardent supporter of public policy as it related to the support of science and a dedicated scientist. He will be remembered for his good humor, his kindness and his diligence in working for many causes. I counted him as a friend as well as a scientific colleague.
With sadness and sympathy for all of our losses,
Bettie Sue Masters

Having grown up in nearby Cleveland, TX, Bill was always an inspiration to me. I enjoyed his scientific achievements and, above all, his sense of humor. Although we spent little time together, I will always remember him in high regard. Please receive my warmest regards to thode who are close to him. Sincerely, Arly Nelson
