Dean Garfield Goates, 79, was embraced in the arms of our Lord on December 13, 2011.
Dean's spirit lives on through his loving wife of 58 years, Kay Goates; his son Lou Goates and his wife Bonnie; his son Bob Goates and his wife Kim, and his daughter Susan Shepherd and her husband Kevin. Dean's pride and joy were his grandkids - Tonya, Debbie, Linda, Travis, Tyler & Tanner. Dean is also survived by his brother, Carl Goates and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved son Ricky, who we know welcomed him with a big hug on his arrival to heaven.
Dean was born on April 3, 1932 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Lafayette and Lena Goates. He received his BS degree in Industrial Engineering at Oklahoma State University and a MS in Industrial Engineering from the University of Houston. After graduating from college, Dean entered the Army as an officer in the Signal Corps and then he went to work for Ethyl Corporation in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. After a short time he transferred to Pasadena, Texas where he and Kay settled and raised their family. He was very proud to have the opportunity to work for Ethyl for 35 years before retiring to enjoy his grandkids.
Dean was an elder and very active member of First Presbyterian Church of Pasadena, where he served on many committees and always helped out around the church. He was an avid football fan and had great joy in the rivalries created by his love for OSU, his kids love for Texas A&M, and his grandsons love for LSU.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church of Pasadena followed by interment at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Houston Area Parkinson Society or to First Presbyterian Church of Pasadena, Texas.

Saddened to hear of your loss, Dean was a gentleman and I always enjoyed our dealings over the years.
