Jane was born June 28, 1922. She attended grammar and secondary schools in the Nether Providence School district. After her graduation in 1939, she attended Swarthmore College and graduated in 1943 with a B.A. in English.
In both high school and college, Jane played field hockey, basketball and lacrosse, earning varsity letters in each. She then went on to the University of Pennsylvania to get her M.A. in English Literature, and while working as a secondary Spanish and English teacher, Jane took several courses that helped her earn a certificate in guidance counseling.
Jane worked as a teacher at Haverford High School from 1944 to 1957, then left to become the guidance counselor at Marple Newtown High School. She was there for two years before moving to Lower Merion High School as a guidance counselor, where she stayed until her retirement in 1986. During her tenure at Lower Merion, Jane became head of the department, and in her last year she volunteered in the admissions department of Kutztown University.
Jane married Philip T. Buxton on June 15, 1957, in the Wallingford Presbyterian Church, and they were happily married for over 53 years. Jane and Philip loved to travel, and Jane was able to reach her three travel ambitions: walking on the Great Wall of China, visiting the Taj Mahal and seeing the Pyramids of Egypt.
Jane was a Soroptimist and was a member and former president and treasurer of the Soroptimist International of the Main Line. International Soroptimist holds a convention every four years, and Jane and Philip were able to attend several of these. Those attended included: Rome, Italy; Melbourne, Australia; Nottingham, England; and Helsinki, Finland. During these visits they were able to incorporate a week or two of travel, which enabled them to see Christchurch, New Zealand, as well as Macbeth's Castle in Cawdor, Scotland. Jane and Philip were able to circumnavigate the globe and shared many amazing, wonderful trips together.
Surviving are her loving husband, Philip T. Buxton of Mohnton; sisters, Anne H. Pike, M.D., of Lancaster County, and Ruth P. Fooskas of Wallingford.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, in the J. Nelson Rigby Funeral Home, 1 W. Baltimore Ave., Media, PA 19063.
Calling hour is 10 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home.

I worked with Jane for 29 years. We had a professional and pleasant relationship as her office was next to mine. She was a competent colleague. Also met Philip on several occasions. My condolences to Phillip and the family. May she rest in peace.
