Barbara Wester

Barbara Wester, M.D. of Wayne, Pa. died on Jan. 24, 2010. Dr. Wester was born on Nov. 26, 1946 in Woodbury, N.J. as the oldest of three girls. She graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy and then Bryn Mawr College. After receiving a Master's degree in the History of Medicine, she went on to receive her M.D. from The Medical College of Virginia. After completing her training in internal medicine at Hershey Medical School, she went on to do a Fellowship in infectious Diseases at Beth Israel Hospital of the Harvard Medical School. She then spent 10 years in practice at Bryn Mawr Hospital before entering a career in the pharmaceutical industry where she developed drugs to treat infectious diseases. She was an active participant in the community and served four years on the Radnor Township school board. Her interests included reading and horseback riding. She also enjoying playing the viola and frequently played in the pit orchestra for Radnor High School musicals. She was a devoted mother of three boys, all of whom followed her into the medical profession. She is survived by her husband Daniel Baker and three children Joshua, Samuel, and Thomas Baker of Wayne and her two sisters Jeanie Wester-Mora and Carolyn Wester. She will be dearly missed. A reception in honor of Barbara will be held at the Wyndham Alumnae House, 168 Morris Ave., Bryn Mawr on the campus of Bryn Mawr College on Friday, Jan. 29, 2010 from 2:30-5 p.m. All are welcome.
