Herbert Schilbe Obituary

Mr. Herbert Theodore Schilbe 1928 - 2016
DOLGEVILLE - Mr. Herbert Theodore Schilbe affectionately known as "Prof", 88, of 24 Second Street Dolgeville, died Sunday morning at his residence of natural causes.
"Prof" was born in Rochester, NY, on May 18, 1928, the son of Gustav and Elise (Vose) Schilbe, and was a graduate of Pittsford High School. He continued his education by graduating from Syracuse University with a BS degree and also was working on his Masters degree.
Mr. Schilbe was employed as a Art Teacher for the Dolgeville Central School for over 34 years, retiring from there in 1985. While at Dolgeville, he helped many students not only with his artistic ability but also helped them in many of "life's challenges".
"Prof" was a member of the Dolgeville Teachers Association and the New York State Retired Teachers Association. His personal interests were in photography and gardening, especially his tulips and roses. He often could be seen in his gardens working to cultivate the flowers. He also enjoyed traveling, especially to his family's native country, Badsooden Allendorf, Germany, and throughout Europe. One of the highlights of his day for many years was going to Motor's Inn in Dolgeville sharing words of wisdom over "politics" and general concerns.
He is survived by a brother, William Schilbe, of Pittsford, NY; a sister-in-law, Josephine Schilbe, of Canandaigua, NY; a nephew, John Gustav Schilbe, Jr., of Canandaigua; his cousins that visited him, Gertrude and Edgar Schuelbe, of Germany; a very special friend and confidant, Carol Stewart, of Dolgeville; his special caregiver, Derrick Angus, of Dolgeville; other caregivers are Jeremy Blakeslee and James Carpenter. Others that were special to Prof were the Trusted Friends Home Care of Ilion and the Mountain View Hospice Team from Gloversville.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 15th, 2016, from 4-6 PM at the Roberts Funeral Home, 3 Faville Avenue, Dolgeville. In keeping with his wishes, there is no formal funeral service.
Memorials in his name may be made to the Dolgeville Central School, Art Department, for a scholarship for a student of art. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
A remembrance of Prof may be made at www.robertsfuneralcare.com.
