As the class agent for the Brandeis University, Class of 1952, I am writing to send our condolences to the family of Dr. Peterson. He was a new PhD when he was our Instructor in American Civilization and assistant to Max Lerner. I now realize that Dr. Peterson was only about 10 years older than we were, but that was a crucial 10 years. He went on to have a very distinguished career. We remember him as a smart, kind, encouraging section leader. We are proud that he started his career at Brandeis and claim him as one of our own. Diana Laskin Siegal

Thank you, Prof. Peterson, for your pathbreaking works on Jefferson and his time. All of us who work on that subject are your students and are and always will be in your debt.

Dr. Peterson has given us all the benefit of his intellect as he made history relevant to us today.
May his example of a life fully and truly lived be a comfort to you now and always.
