Amey Catherine Hugg, age 63, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Louisville on Monday, January 8, 2024. Amey was born in Paducah, Kentucky on September 12, 1960, to Louis Ryan Hugg, Jr., and the late Virginia Rawlings Hugg.
Amey is survived by her father; brother, J. Jason Hugg (Sonya), uncle, Charles A. Rawlings; aunts, Linda Adams and Johanna Elgin, and by several cousins, her golden retriever, Bailey, and her two cats, Sophie and Shannan.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Louis R. and Ethel Sears Hugg, and maternal grandparents, James Adrian and Frances Josephine Oldani Rawlings.
Amey graduated from Franklin County High School in 1978 and the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy in 1984, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy. She was an accomplished flautist and pianist where she played in the Franklin County High School Concert, Marching and Jazz bands; and the University of Kentucky Concert and Marching Bands. She was a member of Phi Delta Chi pharmacy fraternity and Delta Zeta social sorority at the University of Kentucky.
Amey spent her career serving numerous leadership roles as a pharmacist including Deputy Program Manager at Unisys; Director of PGY2 Informatics Residency Program at the University of Louisville; and Director of Section of Digital and Telehealth Practitioners and Director of Pharmacy Informatics and Technology at the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists. She served as the President of the Kentucky Society of Health System Pharmacists in 2010-11.
Amey was an avid water and snow skier and enjoyed being active in the Louisville Ski Club. She enjoyed boating and skiing on the Ohio River, Taylorsville Lake, and other lakes around the state, and snow ski trips and racing with the Louisville Ski Club. Amey also enjoyed playing volleyball and riding horses. In 1985 Amey was in the Miss Kentucky top ten as Miss Fairdale.
A memorial service and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church on Friday, January 19, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Charles Howell officiating. Visitation will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Friday.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center or your local humane society.
