Michael J. O'Leary

Michael J. O'Leary entered into glory on Friday, March 24, 2023.
He was the beloved husband of Patricia, whom he married on November 7, 1982. A devoted father to Joshua (Kimberly), Desiree (Dean), Dawn (Anthony), and Daniel (Marie). He was a loving grandfather to Macklin, Madison, Christina, Anna, Jonathan, Ashley, Sarah, Rachael, Kayla, and all the fur babies. Michael also adored his great-grandchildren Christian, John, Caleb, Arlena, Brinley, and Thorin. Michael is also survived by his parents, Lucille and Martin, his brother, Matthew (Liz), his sisters, Kathy and Janet, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
A well-educated man, Michael had a degree in aviation science that led him to obtain a pilot's license. He also had undergraduate degrees in natural sciences and a postgraduate degree in education. He was a teacher in the New York City School System, teaching science at Benjamin Cardozo High School. After moving to Gloversville, Michael continued teaching in Amsterdam High School as a chemistry teacher. But with all his education, Michael had a musician's heart.
Michael was an ordained minister and was part of the music ministry in various churches, both downstate and in the local area. His last ministry was at The Seed of Abraham in Schenectady, where he played guitar and sang. Michael also took part in many street ministries in the New York City area and in the prison ministry in downtown Brooklyn. He wrote grants for food pantries in lower-income areas and distributed dinners during Thanksgiving at the Holy Spirit Church in Gloversville.
A Celebration of Life will be held by the family on April 22, 2023, at the Paul Nigra Center, Gloversville, beginning at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Autism Speaks or the Glen Animal Clinic.
The family of Michael would like to thank the nursing staff at River Ridge Living Center for their work and care of Michael. The family also wants to thank the staff at St. Mary's Healthcare for their kindness, compassion, and professionalism during this difficult time.
