Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sproles Family Funeral Home - New Castle on Dec. 14, 2025.
Buddy J. "Bud" Hudson, 87, of New Castle, passed away early Friday morning, December 12, 2025, at IU Health in Fishers, Indiana.
He was born on October 3, 1938, in
Fortville, Indiana, the only son of Arthur E. and Catherine (Willits) Hudson.
Bud was a 1956 graduate of Noblesville High School, where he met the love of his life, Sandra J. "Sandy" Boser. He married his high school sweetheart on May 14, 1961, beginning a partnership that would span more than six decades.
Growing up, Bud worked on his grandfather's farm, where he developed the strong work ethic that defined his life. He later attended Purdue University, studying agriculture, and proudly served his country for ten years in the U.S. Army and the Army Reserves.
Bud worked for the Pitman-Moore Division of Dow Chemical for many years before moving to New Castle. In July of 1969, he founded Hudson Tool Rental, building the business from the ground up. What started as a single location in New Castle later expanded to Anderson in 1985 and Muncie in 1989. Bud was generous with his knowledge, time, and resources, helping many others get their start in the business. He remained actively involved in the industry as a member of the American Rental Association and held offices in the Hoosier Rental Association.
Known for his selfless, kind, and easy-going nature, Bud was truly one of a kind. He loved his dogs, and there was always one at the store. He enjoyed riding dirtbikes at Westwood with his sons and his nephew, Kevin Tague, watching old westerns, collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia, and playing cards. In recent years, he and Sandy enjoyed wintering in Florida together.
Bud loved basketball, playing for many years with his sons and neighborhood kids, and was a loyal fan of IU basketball, IU football, and Colts football. He found peace spending time in the woods and great joy watching his children's and grandchildren's sporting events. One of his favorite pastimes was playing with trains in the basement of his home alongside his grandson, Josh, who helped him build the layout. Bud and Sandy were members of Mt. Summit Christian Church. Throughout life, he enjoyed hobby farming, being on tractors, and raising cows.
Above all, Bud was devoted to his family. He was always willing to help his children and grandchildren with business opportunities and guidance, leaving a lasting legacy not just through his work, but through the lives he shaped.
Those left to cherish Bud's memory include his beloved wife, Sandy Hudson; two sons, Greg Hudson (companion: Karen) of New Castle and Doug (Heather) Hudson of Middletown; his grandchildren, Lauren (Brent) Fairchild, Haley Hudson, Luke Hudson (companion: Allicen), Eli Hudson, and Kamryn Hudson; three great-grandchildren, Brinley, Luke, and Liam; a sister, Patricia Brandt Glenn of Edinburgh; and several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew who was like a son to Bud, Kevin (Angela) Tague.
In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his grandson, Josh Hudson; a sister, Norma Jean (Fred) Edwards; a brother-in-law, Stan Brandt; a sister-in-law, Deanna (Richard) Hon; and a brother-in-law, George (Janet) Boser.
The funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Sproles Family Funeral Home, with Pastor Shelly Dennis and Pastor Paul Davis officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
