Geraldine Travers Obituary

Published by Briscoe-Tonic Funeral Home - Mechanicsville from Oct. 13 to Oct. 14, 2021.
Geraldine Mary Travers, 65, entered eternal glory on Sunday, October 10, 2021. She was the youngest daughter born to the late James Elexander Travers and the late Mary Madgelean Briscoe Travers on January 15, 1956, in Piney Point, Maryland.

Having received her education in the St. Mary’s County Public School System, Geraldine graduated from Great Mills High School in 1974. Upon completing her academic career, Geraldine pursued her professional career. She was employed at the Child Developmental Center at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Patuxent River, Maryland; the Tri-County Head Start in Lexington Park, Maryland as well as having held several managerial positions in other occupational arenas. The majority of Geraldine’s professional career was teaching children. She loved working with, teaching, and imparting early learning skills and wisdom into children.

Geraldine's greatest blessing and most rewarding God-given responsibility was raising her baby…her pride and joy…her one and only child, her son Kelly. The blessing and joy of being Kelly’s mother were the sunrays that God used to make Geraldine’s life bright and beautiful. The strong, loving, unbreakable mother and son relationship shared between them was a precious bond that they both cherished like a precious jewel and its beauty was admired by many. When Kelly became a loving husband and father, Geraldine opened her heart even wider to extend her motherly love to her daughter-in-law, Brandi, while she lovingly spoiled the two apples of her eye…her two beautiful grandbabies, Nylasia and Jalen.

Geraldine had a special gift of listening to not only a person’s words, but also their hearts. Her humble spirit of sharing her life’s journey, wisdom, and many testimonies of how God was good to her throughout the years inspired others. She had a smile that illuminated any room and a laugh that was unique and noticeable. In other words, Geraldine Mary Travers was the life of all parties and family events! Her witty comments, jokes, and the boldness of her choice of words and facial expressions undoubtedly told you what was on her mind. But make no mistake about, she did it from a place of love.

Some of Geraldine’s favorite past times were spending time and joking around with family. She enjoyed watching Judge Judy, Hell’s Kitchen, action movies, traveling down south to visit family and friends, and car rides with her cousin, Judy Moore. But her most favorite thing to do was giving praise and honor to her personal Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Geraldine was a faithful member of St. Luke U.A.M.E. Church in Piney Point, Maryland. She was a faithful servant to God and her spiritual leadership and continued to fulfill her godly assignments despite how she felt in her body. She was St. Luke’s Recording Steward, a local Sisterhood Society member, a member of The Magnolia Jubilee Gospel Choir, a delegate to the annual church conference, and a kitchen committee member. Due to her steadfast faithfulness, Geraldine heard on that Sunday evening, “Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord!”(KJV Matthew 25:23).

In addition to Kelly, Brandi, Nylasia, and Jalen, Geraldine leaves cherished, loving memories to her loving siblings Jo-Ann Travers Nunley of Piney Point, Maryland and James (Tonetta) Travers of Fayetteville, North Carolina; her aunt Mauline E. Jordan; uncle Frank D. Travers (Aunt Edith); nieces Terry Miles, Shirley “Cheryl” Estep (Wayne), Hope Dyson, Myheshia Reeves, and Talishia Ducksworth (Larry); her nephews, Johnny Miles (BillyJo), Omega Nunley, John “Snowman” Nunley, Jamel Travers, Andrew “Andy” Dyson, II, and Kevin Dyson (April); twenty-one great nieces and nephews; eleven great-great nieces and nephews; her closest and dearest cousins, Patsy Mason, Judy Moore, Billy Travers, and Doris Chew; her godsons, John “Snowman” Nunley, Robert “BJ” Moore, and Marlo “Drevon” Berry; close friends, Rose Biscoe, Almos Holland, Karen McIntosh, Clarissa Smith, and Doretha Housea; and a host of family members and friends.

Geraldine was preceded in death by her loving parents, James and Mary Travers; grandson Nyjee’ Kelly; her sister, Shirley Jordan; great-niece LaToya Jordan, great-great-niece Ariel Plater, and great-great nephew, Micah Johnson.

Family will unite with friends on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at 9:30 am until service at 11:00 am at First Missionary Baptist Church, 46370 Pegg Lane, Lexington Park, Maryland 20653. Interment to follow at St. Mark U.A.M.E. Church, Valley Lee, Maryland. All attendees are required to wear a face mask and adhere to the CDC’s COVID-19 Health and Safety regulations.

To the Travers Family. The picture you have of Geraldine truly reflects the words written. When I think about Geraldine, it is her riding with Judy. She did not let her illness stop her from enjoying life. Keeping your family in prayers.
