I had the opportunity to work with Pat at Palmetto High School. The phrase that comes to mind to best describe him is an educated gentleman. He had a great deal of both knowledge and wisdom. Still, he never came across as superior.
Although being a Media Specialist meant he was in charge of enforcing many rules, he seemed to handle everything with his special wry sense of humor. I believe every student knew, even while forced to wear their ID or pay a fine, that Mr. Mullins still really cared about them. He truly believed in the power of education, and wanted the best for every student.
From my point of view as a teacher, it was great to have such an advocate of education as a media specialist. Whether it was checking out graphing calculators, laminating math posters, or helping me find the cable I needed to connect a projector, he was always more than willing to pitch in to help the students - and teachers - have the resources they needed to succeed.
These days, it is not uncommon to hear people make disparaging comments about educators in public schools. No one who met Patrick Mullins could ever again make such a comment.
I grieve along with the Mullins family, the Manatee County school system, and all those who have been touched by his life over these many - but too few - years. He will be greatly missed.

One only needs to read these comments or hear the many wonderful words spoken by educators, students, family, and friends to know that Pat was one well-loved and intelligent man that will be sorely missed by so many. Jill, my heart goes out to you and your boys for this terrible loss. May you find eventual comfort in memories and know he has touched so, so many in this world that his spirit always lives on.

I knew Pat more as dad; Mason and I were friends for probably five years before I had even thought to ask his parent's names. Pat always had his advice for us as we grew up through the years, at times with nothing more than a smirk and shake of his head due to our antics. Pat is a man who made an impact on my life and was always there with advice on any situation going on. One particular moment I remember most was working on Mason's Mustang and an alignment we were attempting to do in the garage. His knowledge superseded mine even with my years of experience as a mechanic. He stood back giving Mason and me instructions when he saw us beginning to struggle. The knowledge Pat gave me was always useful and never put things in a way that I could not relate to. In my early 20s he could relate any situation not in a way of being a parent but in a way of almost saying “I understand, I have been there, and done that”. Pat was and still is a great man, I will miss him deeply, but there is no doubt in my mind that one day he will be looking down at something Mason and I do with a shake of the head and a smirk on his face. In my eyes although Pat has fallen he will never be forgotten. My condolences go out to Jill, Mason, and Miles, as well as the rest of the Mullins family. I know deep down Pat will be missed my all

I had the pleasure of knowing Pat as Mr. Mullins in 4th grade at Jesse P Miller as well as a seargent later in life in the National Guard. Pat was one of the best teachers I remember from grade school years and a great friend on weekends in the Guard. He will be missed and my prayers are with the family. He touched many lives with his kindness!

My 19 year-old daughter was a student of Mr. Mullins in 4th grade at Bashaw and we used to call the comments she would come home with "the gospel as according to Mr. Mullins" because she was so enthralled by what he had to say. It created the basis for many interesting conversations that year. We are so sorry for your loss. God Bless him and you. The Martin Family
