Bernice Ellis Nunnally, age 89, of Sutherland, VA, passed away Friday, August 9, 2024 at her residence.

Born and raised in DeWitt, VA, she was the daughter of the late Robert William and Margaret Spain Ellis. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, George “Gee” Nunnally, Sr., a brother, George “Buck” Ellis, a sister, Lois E. Paulette, brothers-in-law, Willie Nunnally, Charlie Nunnally, and Forrest Nunnally, and a sister-in-law, Mary Lucy.

Mrs. Nunnally was a longtime member of Ocran United Methodist Church. In addition to being a farmer’s wife, she loved hunting and the outdoors. She retired from Dinwiddie County Public Schools after many years as Cafeteria Manager at Rohoic Elementary School. She will be remembered most as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. 

She is survived by a son, Tommy Nunnally, a daughter, Janice N. Tribble (Craig Wolfe), a grandson, Robert A. Nunnally (Jessica), an estranged granddaughter and her husband, a great-granddaughter, sisters-in-law, Avis Huskey (Wayne), Evonne Nunnally, and Mary Nunnally, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at Ocran United Methodist Church, 20221 Cox Road, Sutherland, VA 23885. A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Ocran UMC Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, the Dinwiddie Animal Shelter, 10903 Wheelers Pond Road, Dinwiddie VA 23841, or an animal rescue of your choice.
