Carl Shannon Pippin (affectionately known as "Pip"), age 69, of Anniston, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 13, 2024.
Carl was born on March 16, 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama to Guy Stanley "Pip" Pippin and Rebecca Ann Pippin (Brown). He graduated from Anniston High School in 1973 and attended the University of South Alabama before becoming an employee of Bell South. After traveling all over the United States installing utilities for several years, he retired to become a grandfather. In his later years, he ran a small blueberry farm in Anniston.
Carl was an avid fan of Alabama football for his entire life. He did not miss a game if he could help it. During football season, his mood was tied to the success of the Crimson Tide (Roll Tide!!). He also loved to fish, and watch and play tennis and golf, as well as many other sports.
Carl had a penchant for telling stories of his life, travels, friends, and family. He was good at keeping in touch with his lifelong friends and was hard not to like. He was funny, light-hearted, and gentle - full of down-to-earth Southern mirth. He was a loving father and grandfather, and a loyal friend. He will be sorely missed by many.
Carl was preceded in death by his father, Guy Stanley "Pip" Pippin, and mother, Rebecca Ann Pippin (Brown); His aunt, Emogene Kolar (Brown) and uncle, Donald Kolar. He is survived by two daughters, Emily (Landon) Swenson of Sterling, New York, and Leah (Raoul) Grave of Baildon, United Kingdom; five grandchildren, Emma, Claire, Charlie, and Avery Swenson and Henry Grave; and his brother Guy Stanley Pippin.
It was Carl's wish to not have a funeral service. A special thanks is extended to Pam Adams, David van der Blom, and Alabama Hospice Care of East Alabama for making Carl's last days comfortable.
