Carol J. Hunter, 89, of Holland, MI. passed away on September 18, 2025, at The Inn at Freedom Village.
Carol was born August 27, 1936, to Gordon and Myrtle Stine. She was a 1958 graduate of Iowa State University with a degree in Home Economics Education. She was employed by Iowa State University Extension Service as a County Extension Home Economist working with 4-H Clubs and adult programs. In 1967, she received her master's degree from Purdue University. On March 2, 1968, she married Gerald Hunter at the Methodist Church in Minburn, Iowa. She and her husband farmed the Century Family Farm in Webster City, Iowa, for 25 years. In 2003, they moved to Ames, Iowa. In 2012, they relocated to Holland, Michigan to be closer to family.
Over the years she was active in her church, volunteered with the Iowa 4-H programs, Iowa State University Alumni Association and the Iowa State Family and Consumers Sciences alumni. She was a governor of the Iowa State University Foundation and an avid fan of Iowa State University athletics. One of her most memorable experiences was participating in the International 4-H Youth Exchange for 6 months in West Germany in 1960. After moving to Michigan, she loved attending her grandchildren's activities.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald; daughter, Karlene (Mickey) Bittner; four grandchildren, Emily, Alyssa, Elizabeth, and Jacob Bittner, all of Hamilton. She is also survived by her sister, Norma (Paul) Clayton; brother-in-law, Dan Webster; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Marilyn; and her daughter, Karen.
Memorial service to be at 2:00 pm on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at Freedom Village Auditorium, 145 Columbia Ave. Holland, MI 49423.
An additional visitation will take place with family from 5:00-6:00 pm on Friday, October 10, at Foster Funeral Home, 800 Wilson Ave. Webster City, IA 50595.
Burial to take place in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, Iowa.
