Charles Frank Kulpa Jr, 80, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, in South Bend, Indiana.
Charles was born on January 1, 1944 in Jackson, Michigan to the late Charles F. Kulpa Sr. and Virginia G. (Omans) Kulpa.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Virginia Kulpa.
Left to cherish the memory of Charles is his loving wife of many years, Loretta (Blanford) Kulpa; children, Edward McFarlane, Marlo (Matt) Hofmann, David (Juliana) Kulpa, and Andrew (Kenda) Kulpa; 18 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; brother, Steven (Suzanne) Kulpa and sister, D'Lyn (Edward) Fischer.
For many years, Charles enriched the lives of countless students with his wisdom and unwavering commitment to education. A mentor to many, he was revered for his insightful lectures and the personal attention he devoted.
Charles dedicated 40 remarkable years to educating and inspiring students at Notre Dame as a respected professor of microbiology. His illustrious academic journey was rooted at the University of Michigan, where he earned his Bachelor's, Master's, and Ph.D., a testament to his intellectual prowess and unwavering commitment to science.
Charles was an avid golfer which he often reminisced about the pinnacle of his golfing experiences, playing on the hallowed greens of St. Andrew's in Scotland, a memory he treasured deeply. With clubs in hand, Charles sought adventure on golf courses worldwide, leaving his mark from the rolling hills of Japan to fairways across the globe. Traveling was another of Charles' joys, providing him with endless stories that captivated all who listened.
Charles leaves behind a legacy of intellectual curiosity and the importance of living life to the fullest. His memory will continue to inspire and touch many.
Visitation for Charles will be on Saturday, May 11, 2024 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm at Brown Funeral Home, 521 E. Main Street, Niles.
