Charles McBride Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home - Wichita Falls on Jun. 6, 2023.
.
Charles Winget McBride also known as "Charlie Mac" tragically was killed in a cycling accident, alongside his wife Lisa Kathleen McBride, on June 1st, 2023 at the age of 63.
Charlie was born December 05, 1959 in Louisville, Kentucky to Richard Winget McBride and Ann (Seitz) McBride and was the great, great-grandson of Dan Winget who made a name for himself as an author, a rider of the Pony Express and an inseparable friend of William Cody (Buffalo Bill).
Eager to follow in his fathers footsteps, Charles spent his childhood exploring the oil fields and learning all he could about the family business at J.R. & Adam Seitz.
After graduating from Rider High School in 1979 he pursued a degree in geology at Oklahoma University and graduated with a Bachelor Of Science at Midwestern State University.
Charlie met his beloved wife Lisa Kathleen Brown in 1999 while they were both attending a race for The Wichita Falls running Club also known as the Hash House Harriers. It was love at first race and they married on September 19, 2003 in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. This year of 2023 made 20 loving and adventurous years together.
In 2007 Charles took over the family business and became president of J.R. & Adam Seitz. He quickly became an inspiration and trusted leader to his partners and colleagues. Anytime he was in the room you could be sure that all eyes and ears were on Charlie. He was incredibly efficient at finding oil and all were eager to learn all they could from him. There's no question that Charles was a well respected businessman that many looked up to but he was so much more than just that.
He was an exceptional father, husband, and friend that was witty and fun. He was made up of unending adventure, corny dad jokes, and generosity. He was infamous for his "gag" gifts that were guaranteed to make you question his sanity and make you smile.
He was an extraordinary man with a real zest for life. His life motto was "Ohana" and he and his wife shared a special quote that said, "Ohana means family, family means no one gets left behind or forgotten." I can assure you, he will never be forgotten.
Charlie accomplished many marathons and triathlons all over the country including the IronMan. He qualified for the Boston marathon but unfortunately was forced out due to injury. But, one that certainly cannot go without mention is his longest adventure recorded, cycling across the country from Mexico all the way up to Canada in The Great Divide Mountain Bike Route which he renamed, The McBride Divide. Traveling a total of 2700 miles and climbing over 170,000 feet in this epic journey.
Charlie was an incredible man who will be deeply missed and cherished by many.
Surviving are his two daughters, Natalie Rain McBride and Cory Ann ( McBride ) Meharey. Additionally, he is survived by his sisters, Cindi McBride, Phyllis McBride, Jamie Buckner, and Mary McBride and his 3 grandchildren, Ezra Mac Meharey, Aurora Jane Meharey, and Sahara Moon Meharey. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lisa Kathleen McBride, and parents R.W. and Ann McBride.
His family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all his oil field and cycling friends who he considered more like extended family and, our deepest gratitude to Gary Dale Lewis and Lynn Morgan for their commitment to Charles, his family and the company.
The family will hold a celebration of life to honor Charles and Lisa at their residence at 3691 State Hwy 79N Wichita Falls, Tx 76305 Saturday June 17th, 2023 from 2:18 p.m. to 6:16 p.m. and ask their friends to please do us the honor of celebrating with us.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls, Inc., 4909 Johnson Rd., Wichita Falls TX 76310-2547 or charity of one's choice.
