CHERIE MARIE ROUQUETTE passed away peacefully on August 17,2025 after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born on February 24,1954 in Mobile, Alabama, but has lived in the New Orleans area since 1958. She was preceded in death by her loving parents Henry Philip Rouquette, Sr. and Estelle Marie Hebert. Cherie is survived by her brothers Robert Edward Rouquette, his wife Sharon Rose (nee Turner) and their children Robert Joseph Rouquette, Louise Elaine Rouquette; Henry Philip Rouquette Jr. and his daughter Amanda Renée Rouquette; sister Anne Marie Rouquette along with numerous cousins.
Cherie attended Our Lady of The Holy Rosary grammar school. After graduating from Dominican High School, she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in art education from
U.S.L. in Lafayette, La. where she was a proud member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She began her career as an art teacher at De La Salle High School in New Orleans. After several years her love of the Lafayette area drew her back and she continued teaching art in the Breaux Bridge area. Wanting to help people in a more direct way she then enrolled in and
graduated with a degree in Occupational Therapy from L.S.U Scholl of Medicine in New
Orleans. She specifically wanted to work with people who had hand disabilities, and her art background was invaluable in this pursuit. After a company downsizing, she returned to
teaching art and enjoyed the rest of her career at Rummel High School in Metairie until her retirement.
Cherie had a deep love of her church and was a very kind, sweet, loving person with a generous nature. She loved to garden and grew beautiful flowers which the neighbors
marveled at. She loved the outdoors, especially horseback riding and was active in many sports of which volleyball was her favorite. Her greatest pleasure though was spending time with family and friends, especially around Mardi Gras.
Our family wishes to thank Chateau De Notre Dame Hospice for their compassion and care given to our sister as she awaited the open arms of Our Savior.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to The
American Cancer Society or St La Salle Auxiliary De La Salle Christian Brothers, 1522 Carmel Drive Lafayette, LA.
