Clifton "T" Clause

Clifton "T" Clause, a lifelong member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on August 22, 2025, in Eunice, Louisiana, at the age of 89. He was surrounded by his loving family during his final moments.

Born on October 31, 1935, in Bunkie, Louisiana, Clifton was a man of passion and humor, known fondly by many as a jokester and the life of the party. His journey through life was marked by a love of education. A proud graduate of SLI, now known as the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, he earned his Baccalaureate Degree in Geology before expanding his expertise with a Master’s Degree in Math & Physics from “Ole Miss” University. This academic foundation paved the way for a notable career as a physics professor at LSUE, where he inspired students for 14 years with animated lectures. He was also a business man for many years, with endeavors in construction and real-estate.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifton Jean Pierre Clause Sr. and Ada Durio Clause, and is survived by his wife Maxine Clause and brother retired Army Colonel Douglas Clause J.A.G.C. and his wife Helena Clause.

Clifton’s affectionate nature extended to his family, including his beloved wife of 67 years, Maxine, and their children: John David Clause of Eunice, Denise A. Clause of Baton Rouge, and Dionne Francois and her husband, Benny, from Lake Charles. His love and guidance also enriched the lives of his grandchildren: Erika Dupont and her husband Doug, Erin Zaunbrecher and her husband John Lawrence, Drew Francois and his wife Kendra, Adam Clause and his wife Dr. Allyn Clause, Maria Hunt and her husband Hayden, Noah, Emma, and Bryce Clause, and his adored great-grandchildren, Charlotte Dupont, Henry Zaunbrecher, Walter Dupont, Anna Grace Zaunbrecher, Pierce Clause, Azalea Clause and Jane Zaunbrecher.

Outside of academia, Clifton was deeply passionate about life itself. He cherished moments spent fishing and hunting, relished his time at Monday night poker games, and later found joy in gathering with his coffee group. Dancing to Cajun music brought him immense happiness. His competitive spirit shone through in his love of tennis and at one point was ranked No. 1 in Eunice 35yrs and over. He had many other interests which he shared with family and friends including frying his famous small brim and fries at his camp in Indian Village.

Among his many accomplishments, Clifton proudly served as a St. Landry School Board member for 16 years, demonstrating his commitment to education and community. In addition, he was an active member of several community organizations such as Kiwanis, Lions Club, Jaycees, and many school organizations.

Clifton “T” Clause was not just a professor or a family man; he was a storyteller, a friend, and a gatherer of people, always making those around him feel special and valued with his generous manner. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and warmth that will resonate in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Visitation will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Eunice on August 26, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a rosary at 6:00 p.m. The following morning, another visitation is scheduled for 9:00 AM until a Mass of Christian burial at St. Anthony Catholic Church at 11:00 AM, followed by a burial at St. Paul Mausoleum with Father Hampton Davis officiating.
