David L. Sumpter, 73, of South Beloit, IL, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025 in his home.
He was born February 27, 1951 in Fort Atkinson, WI, the son of Adelbert "Del" and Virginia (Spilde) Sumpter. David was a 1969 graduate of F.J. Turner High School. He was a member of the National Guard. David married Jonni F. Stoltz on August 26, 1978 in Rockton, IL.
David started his working career at Fisher Appliance. He later went to work for the family business Sumpter Sales. David enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, campfires and dancing. He and Jonni loved to travel.
Survivors include his loving wife of 46 years, Jonni; daughters, Michelle (James) Engel and Brandi Sumpter; grandchildren, Cody Johnson, Cory (Kayla) Johnson, Miranda (Steven Lund) Johnson, Juliann Aasen and Noah Aasen; nine great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Bonnie (Gary) Phillips, Connie (Ron) Jakaboski, Sheila (Curt) Stadermann and Deb Sumpter; uncles, John Sumpter and Wayne Sumpter; aunt, Claudette "Corky" Borre; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents; brother, John Wayne Sumpter; in-laws, Frank and Muriel Stoltz; aunts and uncles; Brittany his short haired hunting dog and Danny his chocolate lab.
The family would like to thank David's special friend, Lamar Pulliam and Beloit Regional Hospice for their loving care and support.
Funeral service for David will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 26, 2025 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Rd., Beloit, WI, with Chaplain Mark Maxted officiating. Visitation of remembrance will be from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service Sunday in the funeral home. Military Rites will be accorded by VFW Post #2306. Burial will be at 12:00 p.m. Monday, January 27, 2025 in Floral Lawn Cemetery, South Beloit, IL.

In the early "70's, my then husband and David were good friends. He always treated people kindly and impressed me as being a good man.

I am sorry for his family's loss. May God be with you all as you mourn, and bring joyful memories of his life to cheer you!
