Dennis L. Hardin was born on Sept. 20, 1957 in Ulysses, Kansas and died May 17, 2023 in Temple, Texas, due to a sudden illness. Dennis was reared in Springfield, Colorado and graduated from Springfield High School in 1976. He attended Colorado State University in Pueblo (formerly University of Southern Colorado) and graduated with a BS in Civil Engineering Technology on May 14, 1983.
As a teenager, Dennis went on wheat harvests in Kansas and Oklahoma. Two years later, he worked as a laborer at a power plant in Craig, Colorado. Later on, he did some work in land surveying and liked it so much that, as soon as he was able, he took the state test and became a land surveyor. This became his profession. He was highly respected in his field, partly due to his attention to detail. After retirement, he retained his membership in the Professional Land Surveyors of Colorado.
Dennis loved the outdoors, including fishing, hunting, hiking and water skiing. He had a gift with animals and was a self-taught trainer to his numerous dogs. He loved his family and was an involved uncle, spending many Christmas Eves assembling toys. He also took every opportunity to spend time with his cousins, aunt and uncles. Dennis was generous with his time and his money. He helped many friends and neighbors over the years. In fact, Dennis was always ready to lend a hand to anyone who needed help.
In 2017, Dennis married the love of his life, Susanne. They had many shared interests but especially genealogy. Through Susanne and Dr. Charles Stanley, Dennis came to know Jesus Christ as his personal Lord & Savior. Every morning, he would pray to the Lord before attending to anything else.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Susanne; his mother, Janice Duncan; his sister, Sharon Helmer (husband Doug Helmer); his niece, Valorie Houser; his nephew, Ben Houser; his three cousins, Gerry, Kirk and Marshall Holt; and his loyal friend, Bobby Bennett. Dennis was preceded in death by his stepfather, Wes Duncan, and his father, Ira Hardin.
As per his wishes, Dennis was cremated, and no memorial service was held. His family will inter his ashes at a later date.
Hewett-Arney Funeral Home of Temple is entrusted with these arrangements.
