Dennis Charles La Sota, aged 94, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2025, in
McHenry, Illinois. Born on February 16, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois, to Dr. Stanley A. La Sota, DDS, and Helen (Kania). Dennis lived a full life marked by dedication to his family, his country, and his community.
After proudly serving in the Construction Battalion ("Seabees") of the United States Navy, Dennis carved out a successful career as an electrical engineer at Central Telephone Company in Des Plaines. His work was not just a job but a calling, as he invested himself wholeheartedly into his role and the well-being of his community. Dennis's commitment to service shone brightly through his active participation as a scout leader of Troop 60, teaching many young scouts about the great outdoors.
Dennis's faith played a central role in his life, and he served as a deacon at St. Stephens Catholic Church for many years. His devotion to his faith and his church community was evident in the way he lived his life and the love he shared with those around him.
A man of many interests, Dennis enjoyed fishing and golfing during his retirement years in Adams, Wisconsin. His love for the outdoors was matched only by his desire to keep giving back, as he dedicated time to help out with
Habitat for Humanity. Even in his leisure activities, Dennis's innate desire to serve others was ever-present.
Dennis will be remembered as a handy, loving, and interesting man, traits that he brought into every aspect of his life. Whether he was fixing something around the house, spending quality time with his family, or sharing stories of his varied experiences, Dennis brought joy and laughter to those who knew him.
He leaves behind a loving family, including his son Richard of Austin, Texas; his daughters Carol Johnson of Cary, Illinois, and Suzi Ekart (Michael) of Kingsport, Tennessee; and son Pete (Stephanie) of Plymouth, Minnesota. His legacy also lives on through his five grandsons, six granddaughters, great-grandchildren, one nephew, and three nieces, all of whom will miss him deeply.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Marjorie; his eldest son, Charles; his brother, Stanley; and his sister, Diane.
Dennis Charles La Sota's life was a testament to the impact one person can have on the lives of many. His memory will be treasured and his presence sorely missed. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we take comfort in the knowledge that his spirit will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
He would like you to be aware that COPD is not fun, and to reconsider smoking if you do smoke.
