Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 21, 2025 at 3:00 pm in the Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home for Donald O'Rourke Jr., 69, who passed away August 20, 2025. Monsignor Russell J. Harrington will officiate the services.
Visitation will take place Thursday afternoon between the hours of 1:00 - 3:00 pm.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen O'Rourke of Arnaudville; two step-children, Angela (Bubba) Rosenberry of Iowa, LA and Daniel Callais of Hayes, LA; his father, Donald O'Rourke Sr. of Lafayette; two sisters, Charlene O'Rourke (Dean Breaux) of Lafayette and Donna (Richard) Angelle of Lafayette; six step-grandchildren; and thirteen step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jeannette O'Rourke.
Donald was born and reared in Lafayette, La. He was a resident of Arnaudville for the past 14 years, and was self-employed as a general contractor. He was passionate about music his entire life. He enjoyed fishing and being at the camp at Cypremort Point. He loved feeding the neighbor's donkeys next door and had a special language for them from the movie "Shrek". He deeply loved all birds and animals.
Don could make a person laugh so hard and was truly a comedian in his own right, but unfortunately he suffered from stage fright. It was always a hoot to be in his company. He always knew how to make a person smile. He was very generous and did whatever he could to be of service to anyone, especially his loved ones. He would give anyone the shirt off his back. He was a deeply loving man who will be sorely missed forever.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Donald's name to Louisiana Hospice and Pallative Care, 426 Heather Dr., Opelousas, LA 70570.
