Doris Anderson, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, friend and wife, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, April 25, 2024.
Doris was born on July 24, 1947 in Hartford, CT to her late parents, William Cushing and Rose Elsie Cushing. Doris grew up in Bloomfield, CT and graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1965. Shortly after graduating from high school, Doris met the love of her life, Arthur "Art" Anderson, whom she married on July 9, 1966. She moved with Art to Alaska while he served in the U.S. Army, eventually moving back to Connecticut when Art completed his service in the U.S. Army to start a family with children Holly and David. Doris attended Asnuntuck Community College in Enfield, CT where she earned her degree in Bookkeeping. She worked as a Bookkeeper for Combustion Installation in Enfield, CT for many years until she retired in 2015. Doris and Art lived in Enfield, CT for most of their married life before eventually settling in Suffield, CT.
Doris leaves behind a daughter, Holly Michelle Nation, of Enfield, CT and a son, David Lee Anderson, also of Enfield, CT; a granddaughter, Sydney Anderson and her mother, Elizabeth Anderton, both of Somers, CT; a sister-in-law, Leah Anderson of Granby, CT, and a brother-in-law, Gary Anderson, of Windsor, CT; and a special cousin, Pam Wolak of New Britain, CT. Doris is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nephews and niece, all of whom she loved dearly. Doris had many friends who will surely miss Doris's kindness, generosity, and sense of humor. Doris is predeceased by her loving husband and soulmate, Arthur "Art" Anderson, who was most certainly the first one there, eagerly waiting for her as she entered heaven; sisters-in-law Priscilla Marie (Anderson) Wells, of Windsor and Vero Beach, Florida, Robin (Anderson) Dahlmanns of Simsbury, CT, and Linda (Chasse) Anderson of Windsor, CT, and brother-in-law John Meade Anderson, of Dunnelion, Florida. And last but not least, a very special thank you to the friends and neighbors at the Suffield Senior Housing Community for their kindness, helpfulness, and thoughtfulness during Doris and Art's time while living there.
Her family will receive friends on Thursday, May 2, from 4-6 PM at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd. Enfield. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Enfield Community Cat Project at ECCP, PO Box 614, Enfield, CT 06082.
